Yeah, I’m familiar with that article and recently used it as a supporting link in one of my own.

It’s interesting: Clinton raises taxes in 1993. Did things go well in 1993? Well, arguably yes: they went well for REPUBLICANS because Clintonomics was failing so badly. 1994 is the second worse political asskicking in modern American political history behind the 2010 asskicking Obama just got. If you hear somebody say that Clinton’s tax hikes turned America around, you can know you are talking to an idiot. We didn’t get anything resembling the “good years” or the “budget surpluses” or the “big tax revenues” until Republicans passed the capital gains tax cut and Clinton signed it. THAT’S what made the economic engine of America start cranking out horsepower.

Btw, with that correction, I’ll copy and paste your article right below the heritage one, because it really was well-written with some key additional insights.

I’ve done the same thing: for example, the unemployment rate going UP is bad, whereas the manufacturing rate going UP is good. If you’re thinking ahead as many writers often do, it’s easy to confuse your adjectives.

You know what’s funny? We’re in the same situation now with Obama.

According to the records, we officially got out of the recession in June of 2009. That was only five months after Obama took office. There is absolutely nothing Obama did or could have done that would have fixed our structural issues and got us out of the recession in five months. They hadn’t even barely started spending the damn stimulus money at that point and they certainly hadn’t spent enough of it to have any impact. You can now go back and find quotes galore about the need to give the stimulus more time. Obama later admitted that the shovel-ready jobs weren’t as shovel-ready as he thought.

What does that mean? It means that Bush basically got America out of the recession with the measures HE took. And as usual (rather like the Iraq War and the intelligence that got bin Laden that was produced by waterboarding), Obama takes credit for Bush’s actions while demonizing Bush.

The tax CUT that actually helped us during the Clinton years was his cut in the capital gains rate. And, like everything, that was Republicans doing it, Clinton resisting it, and then later Clinton taking credit for what Republicans had done and he had resisted. Capital gains TRIPLED during that period following and THAT was what produced the revenue that gave us whatever surpluses Clinton wants to claim (our national debt strangely increased every single year of Clinton’s presidency, which is kind of weird for all the “surplusses”).

I might be wrong, but in your paragraph near the end:

It seemed to me that where you wrote “up” (twice in the sentence) it should be “down.” The unemployment rate was going down before and rght after Clinton took office, wasn’t it?

If so, to put it in Clintonian language, “I feel your pain.” I’ll pump out an article and be thinking about another fact while I try to describe a different one and spell check doesn’t catch my conflation.

I didn’t watch a lot of the DNC speeches. The dishonesty was bad enough, but it’s the Democrats’ hypocrisy that makes me want to throw a shoe at the television. When John Kerry (Mister “I actually voted for that bill before I voted against it”) decided to be the guy to attack Romney as a flip-flopper, well, let’s just say I never have enjoyed vomiting and try to avoid doing it as much as I can. They could have at least tried to find a Democrat with integrity (I know, what am I saying!?!?) rather than get the world’s worst flip-flopper to call the kettle floppy. Nor can I understand how Democrats think that’s a good line of attack, given that Obama promised to close Gitmo and then kept it open; promised to rid his bills of earmarks and then had the most earmark-laden omnibus bill in the history of the republic; demonized Bush for his debt ceiling increase and then had the largest debt ceiling increases in the history of the human race; promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his first term and then actually tripled that baby; etc. etc.
