We’re hearing about just how vile the teachers union is in Chicago. But it isn’t just there that unions and in particular teachers unions are evil; it is pretty much anywhere you can shake a stick.

Last Wednesday’s Adams 12 School Board meeting packed the house with union protesters, while security officers escorted three residents from the boardroom to their vehicles to ensure their protection.
The offense? Two of the residents openly and respectfully took exception with the District Twelve Educators Association’s loudly projected point of view concerning the board’s proposal to balance the budget. Teacher pension contributions are being increased to align with other employee groups, resulting in a net pay reduction of 1.5 percent.
Nearly 400 teachers — including many from six other area school districts — showed up at Wednesday’s board meeting to protest the suburban Denver board’s decision. The school board made the move when adopting the new budget June 20. On Aug. 24, DTEA distributed a flier through its building representatives alerting members of the decision.
Several pro-union speakers provided public comments to applause from the crowd, claiming the board had violated the collective-bargaining agreement.
But two other attendees rose to offer a different view.
District taxpayer Joseph Hein, who has attended numerous board meetings this year, mentioned the extra burdens parents have taken from recent cuts made to transportation and middle school sports. He then gently urged the District 12 teachers in attendance to listen carefully to the board’s response. “You guys are part of the solution, as well,” he said, while union members waved signs from the crowd.
Sara Colburn, mother of three Adams 12 students, also pleaded with those in attendance. “You need to realize that you are not the only people hurting right now. I guarantee you that families have made many more sacrifices than you have,” she said, prompting most of the union members in the crowd to file out of the boardroom — some booing, many clapping rhythmically — as she concluded her remarks.
“We sat there and we listened to what they had to say,” Colburn later explained. “As soon as they heard something they didn’t like or didn’t agree with, I guess they felt like they didn’t owe me the same courtesy.”
Afterward, the school district’s head of security approached the speakers out of concern for their safety. “(He) told me he thought it probably would be a good idea if he took us to our cars,” said Colburn. “He said all those people that had cleared out were outside the front doors waiting for us.”
The security officer escorted Colburn and her husband through a separate exit to the back of the building, where he then drove them to their vehicle in the main parking lot. Plain-clothes security officers walked Hein to his car, out of the same concern.
“I was taken aback by the intensity of the protest,” Hein later said. “It was a bit disturbing to be escorted out of the building for my protection.”
Another Adams 12 parent, Patty Stagr, sent a note to the superintendent and school board after the meeting indicating she opted not to speak on behalf of taxpayers because she felt “intimidated by the aggressive nature of” union protesters making displays of “disrespect.” She refused to answer one teacher’s inquiry into where her children attend school.
“Our teachers spend lots of time on stopping bullying in schools,” Stagr wrote. “Well, this group could have taught a class in HOW TO BULLY.”
“There was no anger or hostility among those people who came tonight,” said Missy Salter, a District 12 Educators’ Association executive board member and Shadow Ridge Middle School sixth-grade mathematics teacher.
Very few of the union protesters remained to hear the board’s response. Director Norm Jennings explained how state law required the adoption of a budget before June 30. He argued that the board’s actions did not violate the union contract, and that cutting teacher compensation was a difficult but necessary decision.
“We are not going to create further budget problems that impact our kids even further later on by taking the easy road now,” Jennings said.
Having reached an impasse in collective-bargaining negotiations, Adams 12 and DTEA await the report of a fact finder due out later this fall.

SECAUCUS — For the second time this week, the Walmart at Harmon Meadow plaza was evacuated Thursday afternoon after a bomb threat was called in to the store, police said.

A caller phoned in the threat at 1:41 p.m., said Detective Sgt. Dominick DeGennaro of the Secaucus police. Store employees called police, and officers and firefighters searched the store without finding anything, DeGennaro said. The store was allowed to reopen after about an hour, he said.
A nearly identical scenario played out at the same Walmart store on Monday. About 700 people, including customers and employees, were evacuated after a threat was called in to the store at 1:45 p.m., police said.
In Secaucus on Monday, K-9 units from the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office and the NJ Transit and Jersey City police searched the store for more than two hours before determining there was no bomb, authorities said. The store was allowed to reopen at 4:15 p.m., he said.
Authorities also searched for a link to at least a dozen similar threats that were called in to Walmart stores in Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma over the weekend.

On a day that some gay-rights activists are planning a “National Same-Sex Kiss Day,” a Chick-fil-A in Torrance was vandalized overnight with hateful graffiti.
Chick-fil-A employees were greeted Fridays morning with the words “Tastes like hate” scrawled in large black lettering mimicking the chain’s advertising across the back wall of the restaurant at 182nd Street and Hawthorne Boulevard in Torrance.
With media helicopters hovering overhead and police officers on the scene, one employee said, “I’m just trying to sort everything out.”
Chick-fil-A has been at the center of media scrutiny and public debate ever since the company’s president publicly expressed his opposition to same-sex marriage.
On Friday, some gay-rights activists are encouraging same-sex couples to go one of the chicken restaurant’s locations and take a photo or video of themselves kissing.
It remains unclear whether this protest will generate the huge crowds that turned out Wednesday for “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day,” when tens of thousands waited through long lines in a show of support for the executive.
The privately held company declined to give specific sales figures but released a statement to the Los Angeles Times confirming that frenzied sales of chicken sandwiches and cross-cut waffle fries had made for a record-setting day.
“We are very grateful and humbled by the incredible turnout of loyal Chick-fil-A customers on August 1 at Chick-fil-A restaurants around the country,” said Steve Robinson, executive vice president of marketing, in the statement. “While we don’t release exact sales numbers, we can confirm reports that it was a record-setting day.”
Who pulled off that victory for liberalism? It was a fascist Obama-voting demon-possessed cockroach, that’s who it was.
By Friday afternoon reports from restaurants around the country showed the number of protesters was low compared to the hundreds of people from around the country who turned out Wednesday for a “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day.”
It was of course hundreds of thousands of people nationwide, and “the number of [kiss-in] protestors was nonexistant in comparison. Not that the facts should actually matter or anything. “Facts” and “truth” and “reality” only matter to rightwingers, and if you care about such idiotic concepts you are a racist homophobic bigot.
We’re living in a day when Nazi Democrats like Harry Reid openly deploy Orwellian tactics to demonize their opponents. It doesn’t matter if Harry Reid refused in a vote to release his OWN damn taxes; it doesn’t matter if just a few weeks ago his president was protected by his party when Obama declared executive privilege and refused to provide ANY records surrounding the FACT that the Obama administration put 2,000 guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartel murderers who used those guns to murder at least one US Border Patrol Agent and which likely murdered an American ICE agent as well. How is it that Democrats can surround an act of clear presidential obstruction of justice on the one hand and then turn around and demand records right after refusing to allow any records to be turned over? And do so with such appalling pseudo-self righteousness?
“I don’t think the burden should be on me,” Reid said. “The burden should be on him. He’s the one I’ve alleged has not paid any taxes. Why didn’t he release his tax returns?”
Reid said, “the word’s out that he [Romney] hasn’t paid any taxes for 10 years.” The “word is out” because and ONLY because Harry Reid PUT the word out by making two false and recklessly unsubstantiated statements on the Senate floor while making numerous statements to the press.
This is the new system that Democrats are demanding: they get to make assertions with zero evidence documented by nothing. And the burden of proof is on whomever they accuse. That is pure Nazi bullshit and the Democrat Party is the Nazi Party unless and until they drive Harry Reid into retirement for crap like that. The unsolved 2004 murder of Juilliard acting student Sarah Fox is going from cold to hot–and new evidence in the case has been tangentially linked to Occupy Wall Street. NBC 4 reports police have connected DNA found at the Inwood Hill Park murder scene to DNA collected from a chain found at the scene of an Occupy Wall Street protest in East Flatbush late last March. The evidence is direct; the genetic evidence was obtained from Fox’s pink CD player, found near her nude and strangled corpse in May, 2004:
Sources said Tuesday the DNA found on the CD player is linked to DNA found on a chain left by Occupy Wall Street protesters at the Beverly Road subway station in East Flatbush on March 28, 2012.
That Wednesday morning, protesters chained open emergency gates and taped up turnstiles in eight subway stations and posted fliers encouraging riders to enter for free.

Marc Otswald, an analyst at City firm Monument Securities, said Spanish borrowing costs could lead to a full-blown bailout worth around £250 billion.
‘It is becoming very difficult to see how it can manage without that beyond the end of September unless yields fall dramatically,’ he said.
Ishaq Siddiqi, a market strategist at trading firm ETX Capital, said: ‘The sustained high yields on Spanish bonds remain a considerable concern for markets.
If the Spanish government fails to address the country’s economic crisis, like Greece, sky high borrowing rates could eventually force Spain into a full sovereign bailout.
A Spanish bailout would mark a disastrous escalation of the euro crisis, threatening Italy and core eurozone nations such as France and even powerhouse Germany.’

NBC’s Andrea Mitchell made what some may call a not-so-Freudian slip on her daily cable news show that broadcasts on MSNBC.
Mitchell asks former Senator Tom Daschle (D-SD) what he thinks of Republican criticism that “we” are politicizing the bin Laden killing. Mitchell quickly corrected herself and said it is the White House that is being accused of politicizing the event.
Actual quote from Andrea Mitchell: “What do you think of the Republican criticism that we are politicizing it — that the White House, I should say, is politicizing it?”
Yeah, Andrea: you damn well SHOULD say “the White House” instead of “we” when the White House says something. Not that you ever made the mistake of conflating your thoughts with the White House when it happened to be the BUSH White House, did you???

On Wednesday night, on the Fox News Channel’s O’Reilly Factor, Bill O’Reilly took on the subject of media bias, focusing specifically on a recent report by Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC which showed that she was less than objective when it came to covering Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.
O’Reilly discussed this bias with Sally Quinn, the editor of The Washington Post’s On Faith blog.
O’Reilly: I told you the other night that NBC News runs MSNBC. It’s the same management. I also told you they use the same people. Andrea Mitchell is the chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News. Here’s what she said yesterday on MSNBC:
Mitchell:“I had the advantage, or disadvantage, as the case may be, of watching Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich at the same time on side-by-side screens. It’s my job; someone has to do it.”
O’Reilly said that Mitchell crossed the line by disparaging an entire political party (the GOP) when her job is to be an objective reporter, to which Quinn disagreed.
Quinn: I don’t see it that way at all, Bill. I don’t understand what the fuss is. I read that quote over and over and I kept thinking, “What is wrong with this?” I mean, have you ever tried to watch two speeches at once and then try to report or speak about either one of them? It’s impossible. So when she says, “I had the advantage or the disadvantage,” it’s really hard to try to make something—
O’Reilly: Alright, but in the context of the discussion on MSNBC, it didn’t have anything to do with Sally’s (he meant Andrea’s) technological problem. It had to do with who she was watching. And she—
Quinn: I don’t think so. I don’t think so. Because she said she thought Romney’s speech was good, and Romney’s speech was good. So I think that she was—
O’Reilly:So you’re giving her the benefit of the doubt?
O’Reilly then pointed out that if Fox News’ Carl Cameron said the same thing about reporting on Obama, there would be an outcry from the liberal press, which even Quinn agreed with:
Quinn: Well, you’re right about that. You’re right about that: the liberal press would have said that they were—they were somehow ideological, but—even though they weren’t.
Quinn has a very high opinion of Mitchell, calling her “beyond reproach.” But in a 2007 appearance on The O’Reilly Factor, Mitchell told O’Reilly that there wasn’t a bias at any of the major broadcast networks and that she didn’t think Chris Matthews was a “liberal thinker.”
Talk about living in a bubble.
Mitchell’s lament wasn’t the first time she showed a flash of her disdain for Romney and the GOP.
In January, when discussing the Iowa Caucus, Mitchell said that the rap on Iowa was that it didn’t represent the rest of the country because it was “Too White, Too Evangelical, Too Rural.” More recently she suggested, without any verifiable proof, that Romney’s family entered the country illegally from Mexico.
I’m sure other liberals besides Quinn will rush to Mitchell’s defense. But Mitchell’s reporting, on a daily basis, clearly reveals a liberal bias.
Of course, Chris Matthews is the guy who famously had the “thrill going up my leg” as he heard his messiah speak. So when you ask a transparent liberal like the Washington Post’s Sally Quinn if a fellow transparent liberal like Andrea Mitchell is transparently liberal, and what do you think the transparent liberal is going to say about the transparent liberal?
The left celebrates itself as “tolerant.” If you agree with them, they celebrate your right to your opinion.
But if they don’t agree with you, they physically attack you; they spit at you; they spray poison at you.
“Tolerance” in the mind of the left is to act like demoniacs to anyone and everyone who doesn’t think exactly like they do.

In this newly released video, volunteers with the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) describe how they were violently assaulted by pro-homosexual “marriage” advocates while promoting traditional marriage on college campuses and in the public square.
“That empty slogan about tolerance comes crashing down after you see how TFP volunteers were criminally assaulted by same-sex ‘marriage’ advocates,” said TFP Student Action Director John Ritchie.
“The video speaks for itself. They don’t tolerate God’s marriage. In fact, our volunteers have been bullied, pepper sprayed, hit with glass bottles, sprayed with pesticide, punched, and spit on for peacefullystating that marriage iswhat it is – the unionbetween one man and one woman.”
“When you watch same-sex ‘marriage’ activists destroy your signs, desecrate the Bible, blaspheme, and burn your literature, it becomes clear that the homosexual agenda is not really about tolerance,” Ritchie said. “It’s about the formation of a strange dictatorship – a dictatorship of pseudo-tolerance and make-believe equality – where freedom of speech is only allowed if it advances sinful lifestyles; where God, family values and public morality are off limits and targeted for destruction.”

It’s a big eye-opener.”
“But despite these attacks, TFP Student Action volunteers are upbeat, and planning more campaigns in defense of marriage. We like to be on the front lines,” said Ritchie. “And the more God’s marriage is under attack, the more we will defend it.”
I note that TFP Student Action is a Catholic organization. And for the record I’m not Catholic. I actually have a fair number of theological disagreements with the Catholic Church – though I affirm that in the key aspects regarding the Person and Work of Christ, Catholics share my views and are within orthodox. I say that to make the statement that I disagree with Catholics on many ideas such as whether salvationis purely through God’s grace through Jesus Christ or by faith plus works; such as what human life is and when it begins that relates to the Catholic ban on birth control, etc. But I yield to them the right to worship as they choose and to practice their faith as they wish.
I can go lot further from my own theological beliefs and say similar things about Mormons, about Buddhists, about Muslims. I disagree vociferously with all of these and many others; but if a Muslim was speaking, I would never shout him down simply because I don’t agree with him. And my refusal to shout him down would NOT be from the cowardly liberal recognition that Islam – unlike most other religions – will physically come after you and kill you. Liberals are the worst kind of coward who will attack people whom they know will not fight back. No, I won’t shout down a Muslim because unlike liberals I am not a fascist, and I believe that that Muslim has every bit as much right to express his beliefs as I do.
If you want to see true intolerance, if you want to see fascism rising its ugly head yet again, look at a liberal.
Letters containing suspicious white powder arrived in the mail rooms of Manhattan banks as well as City Hall and News Corp. today as a series of May Day protests unfolded around the city.
At least seven locations in New York City, primarily Wells Fargo branches, received menacing letters containing the white powder on Monday and today.

“This is a reminder that you are not in control,” said a message that arrived with the envelopes. “Just in case you needed some incentive to stop working we have a little surprise for you. Think fast you have seconds.”
The letter ended with a taunt.
“F— THE BOSSES F— THE BANKS F— THE PIGS ‘Happy May Day.’”
Several samples tested negative. The envelopes evidently contained corn starch, police said. Later, all the powder samples were determined to be non-toxic, The Associated Press reported.
The receipt of the white powder prompted evacuations at bank branches, police told the AP, but caused no injuries.
One of the mailings was addressed to Mayor Michael Bloomberg, but it never made it to City Hall. It was opened instead in the mail room of a nearby building on — ironicallly — Gold Street, where the mail is screened.
Two suspicious letters were also found today in the basement of the New Corp. headquarters at 1211 Avenue of the Americas, at the Wall Street Journal and Citicorp headquarters.
Police initially suggested the suspicious envelopes could have been mailed by militants from within the Occupy Wall Street movement, but a spokesman for Occupy Wall Street denied any connection to the mailings, saying the police were making a false assumption.
The police believed San Francisco-based Wells Fargo bank might have been targeted for white powder mailings because about half of a key dozen Occupy Wall Street members have backgrounds in Oakland, San Francisco and Berkeley, and similar incidents occurred in California earlier this week, police sources said.
In the New York cases, the envelopes mainly appear to have reached low-level workers at the bank branches.
“Apparently, the message was aimed at the mail room workers among the ’99 percent,’” Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Browne told ABC News.
Some of the envelopes, believed intended for May Day delivery, arrived at the banks early, according to police.
“They underestimated the efficiency of the U.S. Postal Service,” one official said.

SEATTLE — Some May Day protestors ran rampant in Downtown Seattle Tuesday afternoon, smashing windows at businesses and cars as they marched through city streets and causing Seattle’s City Hall to go into lockdown.
Property damage was extensive including a Wells Fargo bank, Niketown, Taphouse Grill, American Apparel and the old downtown federal courthouse. Seattle police tweeted that multiple vehicles were damaged along parts of Seneca Street and Sixth Avenue, and the HomeStreet Bank on 6th was also vandalized.
KOMO News reporter Joel Moreno says he and his photographer had been hit with a paint bomb while covering the march and ensuing riot.
He says about 50 people clad in all black outfits were throwing paint at buildings and cars, marking the anarchist symbols, “but there were certainly others not dressed in black participating in criminal behavior.”
The march itself began just after 12:30 p.m. with about 200 people and then the group in black inserted itself into the middle of the parade body.
“They wasted no time,” Moreno said. “They went about two blocks before they started damaging property.”
Moreno said that’s when he was hit with a paint bomb. But up ahead he started hearing glass shatter.
“We turned the corner and saw large storefronts at Wells Fargo smashed in,” he said. “We saw a firebomb of some sort at the U.S. Court of Appeals where they went in and bashed the windows.” Moreno said it looks like a firebomb was lobbed inside: “We saw smoke coming from inside the windows.”
As protestors smashed windows at Niketown, store owners at nearby American Eagle store blocked their doors while customers were still inside in an effort to keep rioters out.
Police were using pepper spray, said a Seattlepi.com photographer who was caught in a melee.
There are no word on the number of any arrests. Police are asking any people or businesses who had their property vandalized should call the Seattle Police non-emergency line at (206) 625-5011.
‘This is a real welcome to Seattle’
The riots had eased by just after 1 p.m. and calmer heads were prevailing, but parts of Downtown Seattle remained littered with broken glass, painted windows, smashed cars and slashed tires as emergency vehicles wound their way around the Downtown core. Nearly every car for an entire city block was damaged in some way.
One of those caught in the protests along Sixth Avenue was a tourist from Vancouver B.C. His car’s windows were smashed in by protestors.
“My family came down for a holiday, welcome to the States!” he said. “They (protestors) were just going to town on (Niketown windows) and they (nearby cops) weren’t doing anything.”
“I don’t know why people want pictures of my car. I don’t know why they have to mouth off to me and tell me to go back to Canada,” he said. “This is a real welcome to Seattle”
The rioters are separate from a peaceful protest and rally that has been under way at the Westlake Center.
At 5 p.m., a May Day march starts from a church in the Central District and will go to Wells Fargo’s main downtown headquarters as it closes for the day, with frustrations about how the bank treats immigrants and immigration issues.

CLEVELAND – Occupy Cleveland canceled a scheduled rally Tuesday after a group of men connected to the organization were arrested by the FBI.
In a news release, Occupy Cleveland said the five men arrested in a terror plot to blow up the Route 82 bridge in Brecksville were “in no way representing or acting on behalf of Occupy Cleveland” and Occupy is rooted in non-violent principles.
The rally was tied into May Day, a day typically associated with protests for workers’ rights.
According to an FBI affidavit, the group of suspects arrested in the terror plot talked about targeting cargo ships on May 1, the day of the “fest.”
“Ships are a ‘d–n good target,” one suspect Douglas Wright allegedly said during a meeting with the other suspects, adding that all of the cops would be downtown for May Day.
Another suspect, Brandon Baxter, then allegedly said, “May 1st is going to be crazy.”
Here are the names of the other three suspects: Anthony Hayne, Connor Stevens, Joshua Stafford.
According to the FBI, the suspects showed interest in causing financial damage through attacks. Baxter advised the group that blowing up the Detroit Superior Bridge would would not stop money flowing to the “One Percent.”
The “One Percent” is a mantra used by the Occupy movement to represent the wealth of the top one percent in comparison to the other 99 percent. Main targets of the movement are large corporations and the global financial system.
The affidavit also said the suspects discussed targeting the opening of the downtown casino, the Federal Reserve Bank and financial institution signs atop high-rise buildings in downtown Cleveland.
A member of Occupy Cleveland said he saw all five suspects at a meeting for the organization Sunday. He said he considered three of them friends and they never talked about anything violent with him.
Occupy movements through the U.S. planned May Day protests Tuesday targeting U.S. financial policies. Reports said they hoped it would be a day that would help revitalize the movement.
Occupy Cleveland tweeted Tuesday afternoon “Occupy Cleveland is shocked by these allegations. We continue to be committed to creating social change through non-violence.”

It’s interesting that Occupy is doing this on “May Day.” Communism murdered more than ONE HUNDRED MILLION OF THEIR OWN PEOPLE DURING PEACETIME. Hey, why not celebrate it by honoring May Day with more violence? Meanwhile, American liberals have already added another FIFTY-FOUR MILLION HUMAN BEINGS in their abortion mills; all they want is death and more death.
But they’ll be “tolerant” while they’re spreading their hate and murder, I’m sure.
And the mainstream media – which is every bit as morally filthy and toxic as the Occupy Movement is physically filthy and toxic – is working just as hard to whitewash the fascism and crimes of the Occupy Movement as they did to illegitimately brand the Tea Party movement as something bad.

Wolf, who is best known for her book “The Beauty Myth” and most recently made headlines when she was arrested in October at an Occupy Wall Street protest, is asking the public to boycott the singer’s video because she claims it’s propaganda for the U.S. Marines Corps.
Perry’s latest video features the singer breaking up with a boyfriend and doing her best “G.I. Jane” impersonation as she cuts her hair and joins the Marines.
“Have you all seen the Katy Perry Marines video?” Wolf posted on her Facebook page on Sunday. “It is a total piece of propaganda for the Marines … I really want to find out if she was paid by them for making it … It is truly shameful.”
The author added, “I would suggest a boycott of this singer whom I really liked — if you are as offended at this glorification of violence as I am.”
It seems fairly obvious that the video is supposed to suggest female empowerment, and joining the Marines is supposed to show that Perry isn’t broken just because heart is. All of Perry’s videos have a theatrical element to them, but “Part of Me” is a considerable departure from past videos such as “California Gurls,” which featured Perry in Candyland with whipped cream canisters shooting out of her bra.
Perry hasn’t said if she was paid by the military to feature them in her video, but she told MTV she deliberately chose them because they best represent the song.
“It’s an affirmation of strength, so I wanted to go the strongest route I ever could,” she explained. “Literally, I was like, ‘I’m gonna join the service. I’m gonna join the Marines.’ We used only Marines. … For three days, I was a wannabe Marine, which was so difficult.”

There was a time when Republicans and Democrats alike supported their president and their military in time of war. And that is particularly relevant given the fact that World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam – you know, the four biggest and costliest wars in American history – were all waged by Democrat presidents.
Tragically and pathetically, the Democrat Party veered into the real of being “the party of treason” in the 1960s when the virulently leftist faction that today OWNSthe Democrat Party undermined their own president (LBJ) and betrayed America during the Vietnam War. They leaked the Pentagon Papers (for the record, Nixon went down trying to protect national security secrets and embarrassing details that all occurred during the DEMOCRAT LBJ administration); they spat on our troops as they returned home from Vietnam; they undermined our enormous military success in Vietnam such that they literally “fundamentally transformed” North Vietnam’s worst military defeat (the Tet Offensive) into a huge political victory; they gutted and disgraced the American military in the presidency of Jimmy Carter leaving the USA weak and humiliated in the face of a dominating USSR; they elected as president a draft dodger who had expressed his “loathing” of the American military in writing - followed by a Clinton presidency that AGAIN gutted the military and intelligence which invited Osama bin Laden to attack us; and so on.
It is simply a fact that the Democrat Party is fundamentally un-American, and pretty much everyone knows it.

During a press conference Thursday afternoon, House minority leader Nancy Pelosi praised those participating in the “Occupy Wall Street” protests. “God bless them,” Pelosi said, “for their spontaneity. It’s independent … it’s young, it’s spontaneous, and it’s focused. And it’s going to be effective.”
“The message of the protesters is a message for the establishment everyplace,” said the House Democrats’ leader. “No longer will the recklessness of some on Wall Street cause massive joblessness on Main Street.”
When the Tea Party movement emerged in 2009, then-Speaker of the House Pelosi called them “astroturf” and “un-American” people who were “carrying swastikas.”

OAKLAND, Calif (Reuters) – More than 400 anti-Wall Street protesters were arrested in Oakland during a night of skirmishes in which police fired tear gas and bean bag projectiles, the city said on Sunday, marking one of the biggest mass arrests since nationwide economic protests began last year.
Earlier on Sunday, authorities had said that the arrest figure was between 200 and 300. But the Oakland emergency operations center said in a statement that revised that up to more than 400, and said that Oakland Police were expected to announce a more precise number later on Sunday.
Riot police on Saturday night fought running skirmishes with protesters, injuring three officers and at least one demonstrator.
The scuffles erupted in the afternoon as activists sought to take over a shuttered downtown convention center, sparking cat-and-mouse battles that lasted well into the night in a city that has seen tensions between police and protesters boil over repeatedly.
Oakland has become an unlikely flashpoint of the national “Occupy” protests against economic inequality that began last year in New York’s financial district and have spread to dozens of cities across the country.
The protests in most cities have been peaceful and sparked a national debate over how much of the country’s wealth is held by the richest 1 percent of the population. President Barack Obama has sought to capitalize on the attention by calling for higher taxes on the richest Americans.
Protests focused on Oakland after a former Marine, Scott Olsen, was critically injured during a demonstration in October. Protesters said he was hit in the head by a tear gas canister but authorities have never said exactly how he was hurt.
The Occupy movement appeared to lose momentum late last year as police cleared protest camps in cities across the country.
Violence erupted again in Oakland on Saturday when protesters attempted to take over the apparently empty downtown convention center to establish a new headquarters and draw attention to the problem of homelessness.
Police in riot gear moved in, firing smoke grenades, tear gas and bean-bag projectiles to drive the crowd back.
“Officers were pelted with bottles, metal pipe, rocks, spray cans, improvised explosive devices and burning flares,” the Oakland Police Department said in a statement. “Oakland Police Department deployed smoke and tear gas.”
Some activists, carrying shields made of plastic garbage cans and corrugated metal, tried to circumvent the police line, and surged toward police on another side of the building as more smoke canisters were fired.
Oakland city officials said “extremists” were fomenting the demonstrations and using the city as a playground for the movement. Protesters have accused the city of overreacting and using heavy-handed tactics.
Across the country in New York, police said four people were arrested on Saturday night after protesters clashed with police at what demonstrators had called an “OccuParty” inside an abandoned building in the borough of Brooklyn. Protesters knocked over garbage pails and hurled objects at police, slightly injuring six officers, a police spokesman said. The four people were charged with a variety of crimes including inciting a riot.
Tension was rising in Washington as well, where the National Park Service has said it will bar Occupy protesters in the nation’s capital from camping in two parks near the White House where they have been living since October.
That order, if carried out as promised on Monday, could be a blow to one of the highest-profile chapters of the movement.

Progressive Media Project writer Randy Jurado Ertil seems nonplussed the far-left Occupy Wall Street movement is mainly white. “If the Occupy movement is to succeed this year, it needs to become more diverse,” he says in a Jan. 13 op-ed.
It seems like it was just yesterday that people of the left were saying the same thing about the tea-party movement. What gives?
Could it be that minorities feel disenfranchised by both sides — the left and the right — though for radically different reasons? As black conservative columnist and economics professor Walter Williams would say, let’s look at it.
The scarcity of black and brown faces in tea-party crowds has been chronicled gleefully by the liberal news media and activists, who have strived mightily to characterize the tea party as a racist enterprise. Is it any wonder more minorities don’t try to shoulder their way into the mix? If they believe even a fraction of what they read, hear and see on television, they’ll believe people of their race are unwelcome in tea-party gatherings — especially if they’re not told tea-party icons include black leaders such as Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., and Rep. Tim Scott, R-S.C.
“The Occupy movement needs to recruit minorities not only to reflect accurately the ethnic diversity that does exist in the United States but also to respond to the fact that economic injustice falls most heavily on the backs of minorities,” Mr. Ertil writes.
And whose fault is that? Ask black intellectual Thomas Sowell; he’ll tell you:
“Over the years, some of the most devastating policies, in terms of their actual effects on black people, have come from liberal Democrats … None cost blacks more jobs than minimum-wage laws, (which) have a track record of increasing unemployment, especially among the young, the less skilled and minorities. … Urban renewal was another big Democratic liberal idea. It destroyed mostly low-income minority neighborhoods and replaced them with upscale housing the former residents could not afford. … Even when liberal Democrats try specifically to help blacks, the results often backfire. …”
Arguably, the worst policy of all was the vast expansion of the family-destroying welfare state beginning in the 1960s. Mr. Ertil mentions the large disparity in wealth between white and black households, but neglects to add that this disparity shrinks dramatically among households led by married couples.
There’s probably no way to find out precisely why minorities are scarce in Occupy encampments, but here’s a theory: middle-class African-Americans and Hispanics recognize the movement has nothing to offer them; and the rest are starting to catch on that the left has been lying to them and holding them down ever since the days when the Democrats’ primary Republican target was Abraham Lincoln.
We have a rather inconvenient truth about the liberal Occupy movement as noted by the Washington Times:
The Occupy Wall Street movement wants the world to see it as an inclusive, multicultural grassroots uprising representing the full spectrum of America’s rich ethnic tapestry. But the group’s internal documents reveal what any casual observer knows; the movement is almost entirely dominated by a bunch of disaffected white kids.

OAKLAND, Calif. (WTW) — Six people are facing charges after Oakland police say they broke the windows of police cars, vandalized a television news van and threw bottles at police officers.
Police spokeswoman Johnna Watson says the six were arrested on a variety of charges, including assaulting officers, possession of explosives and vandalism during a march and protest in downtown Oakland late Saturday.
Watson says officers found and an explosive device described as a quarter stick of dynamite on one of the suspects they arrested.
After the protest, Occupy Oakland issued a release saying the march was held as a protest against recent police actions.
The arrests came during a week in which protesters tried to occupy the mayor’s office, and police cleared demonstrators from the plaza in front of City Hall, arresting 12 people.
President Barack Obama’s administration has ordered the United States Coast Guard to protect grain ships at the Port of Longview from violent “Occupy” protesters and dockworker union members, according to a local news report.
The Daily News in Longview, Wash., reported that the Coast Guard will protect a grain shipment from an onslaught of “Occupy” protesters and members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU). The ship will be transporting grain to Asia. A date for the shipment has not yet been set.
The group of leftwing activists had shut down ports all along the West Coast on Dec. 8, including the Port of Longview. The Coast Guard will apparently be helping the ship load its grain at the port, and then depart for Asia, safely.
The local unions and “Occupy” groups are planning to band together to protest the Coast Guard protections of the grain shipment when it happens.
The Coast Guard is a part of the United States Armed Forces and ordinarily falls under the authority of the Department of Homeland Security. The president can, however, at any time, move the Coast Guard to operate under the U.S. Department of Navy, and Congress can do the same during times of war. As the nation’s commander-in-chief, President Obama has the ability to control what actions the Coast Guard takes.
The Daily News reported that the ILWU said it has no plans to stop the grain ship.
Dockworker union members have protested the port since last January, according to a report on the World Socialist Web Site (WSWS).
Let’s pretend that the Tea Party had done stuff like that. I would say I can’t imagine how unglued the mainstream media would have become, but that really isn’t true – because they came maximally unglued over the Tea Party even though the Tea Party hadn’t done ANYTHING EVEN CLOSE to that fascist crap.
