Reporter Helen Thomas is often described as “venerable.” That’s because she’s 1) Older than dirt; and 2) as liberal as the federal deficit is huge.
We receive an important lesson from her on what it means to be a “reporter” in today’s world:
Helen Thomas: I’m a liberal, I was born a liberal, I’ll be one ’til I die, what else should a reporter be when you see so much and when we have such great privilege and access to the truth?
CBC Interviewer: Well, you know, it’s interesting because I’m sure that if somebody from the right was sitting here they would say… if you ask the question what should a reporter be they will say, “Oh, I don’t know, How about objective?”
Helen Thomas: You’re not asking people not to think not to care are you? But you are asking them to give a fair reporting both sides and so forth and I did it for 57 years I was never, never accused of bias in my copy. But I had a right to be angry and unhappy at the trend that I saw in my country that I was close enough to see.

According to Newsbuster‘s Warner Todd-Houston, Thomas also said that conservatives are neither thinking nor caring people. He describes Thomas’ candor as “An admission of bias so strong that it could ward off a vampire” and says, “HotAir says that Thomas’ admission is a ‘sunbeam of candor,’ but I call it more like a dagger into the heart of journalism.”
I like the cut of his gib.
It is when the most “venerable” journalists – such as Helen Thomas, Chris Matthews, Bill Moyers, and Walter Cronkite (and see also) – emerge and demonstrate their blatant bias and their literal desire to serve as propagandists – that we see how truly corrupt and dishonest the mainstream media has become.
Bernie Goldberg described liberal journalists as simply believing their political views were normal and proper. They were liberal because – in their mindset – “liberal” was the only way any intelligent and reasonable person could be.
I once went to the length of transcribing a couple of pages of Goldberg’s book Bias to demonstrate how “bias” worked to transform a “news” story into blatant “propaganda” – all without “journalists” even being aware of their bias. The Bernie stuff appears about a quarter way into the article.
Helen Thomas couldn’t be more wrong – according to study after study – in her assertion that conservatives were not “caring” people. Here are just a few articles on the subject:
If Helen Thomas were a good “reporter” she would have went to the trouble of checking her facts at least once in her life.
But then again, conservatives are more honest and care more about the truth, in addition to their being more generous, according to a wide variety of studies from a wide variety of disciplines as summarized by World Magazine.
There are undoubtedly a great many liberal journalists who are just bad people and willing to flat-out lie for the sake of their ideology. But there are also a great many who simply never once bothered to ever check the underlying credibility of many of their beliefs that constitute their worldview.
Whichever it is, you cannot trust the mainstream media today because it is filled to the gills with the dishonesty, corruption, bias, partisanship, and propaganda that is simply endemic to their thought process. They are not fair or objective because they can’t be – even if they try. They are simply too convinced that liberalism is simply “true.”
By the way, Thomas’ claim that she has “never, never accused of bias in her copy” is a joke that belies just how truly out-of-touch she truly is with the political right of this country. Every conservative knows Thomas has been biased since before the days when dinosaurs walked the earth. She has been a liberal goldfish in a f۠ish tank choked full with liberal goldfish for so many years that she simply doesn’t even know any other kind of fish.
