It Takes A Citizen To Confront Corrupt Tax Cheat Charlie Rangel

Charles Rangel is under investigation for failing to pay taxes.  What makes it such a story is that he is the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee – the committee that actually writes the nation’s tax laws.

Amazingly, the media haven’t covered the story, because of a single letter – namely, the “D” (standing for ‘Democrat’) after his name.  As Glenn Beck noted on his program March 10, ABC, CBS, and NBC did not cover this story even once – in spite of a vote in Congress this month to strip Rangel of his chairmanship – in 2009.  Not even once!  But by comparison, those same websites covered “Octomom” dozens of times, with NBC alone having 30 references to her.

When the media won’t cover a story that needs to be told because it is too corrupt, too dishonest, too biased, to cover the story, someone needs to do the job these propagandists refuse to do.

And so Jason Mattera stepped in to do the media’s job of shining the spotlight on political corruption for them (you can only imagine how they WOULD have been swarming over this story had the politician had an “R” after his name instead of a “D”).

Here’s my own transcript of the encounter:

MATTERA: “I was wondering, with Americans just struggling to pay their bills, losing their jobs, why the hell do you drive a taxpayer-subsidized Cadillac?  Use four rent-controlled apartments below market rate?  And fail to pay taxes on rental properties?  When you write the tax code!

[As Jason asks his questions, Rep. Rangel – who is under investigation for these very things – is laughing like a man who couldn’t care less that he is screwing his constituents and his country].

RANGEL:  Why don’t you mind your goddamned business?

MATTERA: No, I’m serious!  Why are you such a disgrace?

MATTERA: Hey.  I have my tax returns.  Can you write “Rangel rule” just so I can be free from all the penalties?

And here’s the Youtube video of the encounter:

Let’s leave Rangel’s taxpayer-funded Cadillac (and the $800 bucks a month it cost you to pay for it) aside and ask another question: Why is it that a wealthy politician like Charles Rangel can get off with having four rent controlled apartments that have been set aside for low-income families without the media asking questions?  This when a Republican Senator tapped his foot in a bathroom and it was the leading story for three weeks!

Rangel Keeps House Chair

February 11, 2009

House Democrats yesterday voted down an attempt to remove Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee during an ongoing ethics investigation.

The Ethics Committee is looking at several issues, including Rangel’s failure to pay taxes on about $75,000 in rental income from a beach house he owns in the Dominican Republic and his use of three rent-stabilized apartments in Harlem.

The story of Rangel’s corruption is something else.

When Democrats took power, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on November 14, 2006:

“Democrats pledge to make this the most honest, ethical, and open Congress in history.”

Democrats are making no effort to deal with Rangel, just as they made no effort to deal with fellow Ways and Means Committee member William Jefferson after $90,000 in bribe money was discovered in his freezer.

This would be an incredibly sick joke, if it wasn’t such a complete disgrace and a threat to our way of life.

Meanwhile, Charlie Rangel’s fellow Democrat tax cheat – Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner – is vowing to ignore the blatant hypcrisy that will permeate virtually everything he does and pursue his fellow tax evaders to the fullest extent of the law.
