Obama Trumpets Commitment To Disabled Vets While Stabbing Them In The Back

This is so like Barack Obama.

The man who is responsible for piling on more debt than every president from George Washington to George W. Bush – COMBINED – while simultaneously preaching “fiscal responsibility” can pretty much twist anything into anything.

So no one should be very surprised that Obama would tout his championing of Veterans’ issues even as he moves behind the scenes to commit the mother of all backstabbings.

As CNN reported:

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki confirmed Tuesday that the Obama administration is considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for treatment of service-related injuries with private insurance.

You can see Barack Obama doing his stump speech somewhere (ubiquitous teleprompter present to keep him from looking like the incoherent moron he really is feeding him his lines, of course) with his arm around a veteran on crutches with his legs destroyed by some roadside bomb.  When the photo-op is over, Obama pulls back his arm and says, “Now why don’t you limp off somewhere else?”

As a disabled, service-connected veteran, let me add my voice to the chorus: keep your greasy mitts off the VA, okay, Barry Hussein?

This brings the age-old hatred Democrats have for the military to a whole new low.  I’m guessing this is in response to the polite contempt Marines displayed for Obama when his political buttsmooching tour took him their way.

Demanding service-connected vets to pay for the care of their own wounds isn’t any kind of reform; it’s rather about as twisted as you can get.  What are you going to do if a kid can’t pay for private insurance, Barry Hussein: make him crawl around on his stumps?

Every day is a cause for renewed outrage with this Weasel-in-Chief…

Update March 17: the American Legion is suitably outraged over Obama’s betrayal of veterans:

WASHINGTON, March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The leader of the nation’s largest veterans organization says he is “deeply disappointed and concerned” after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.

“It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan,” said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. “He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it.”

The Commander, clearly angered as he emerged from the session said, “This reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate ‘ to care for him who shall have borne the battle’ given that the United States government sent members of the armed forces into harm’s way, and not private insurance companies. I say again that The American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connected disability at the very agency that was created to treat the unique need of America’s veterans!”

Commander Rehbein was among a group of senior officials from veterans service organizations joining the President, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki and Steven Kosiak, the overseer of defense spending at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The group’s early afternoon conversation at The White House was precipitated by a letter of protest presented to the President earlier this month. The letter, co-signed by Commander Rehbein and the heads of ten colleague organizations, read, in part, ” There is simply no logical explanation for billing a veteran’s personal insurance for care that the VA has a responsibility to provide. While we understand the fiscal difficulties this country faces right now, placing the burden of those fiscal problems on the men and women who have already sacrificed a great deal for this country is unconscionable.”

He better! Michael, there are a whole lot of us who join with you in your statement.
It’s really true, everday there is another lesson in double speak and hypocrisy from O.

How’s Bev and your family coming along?

  2. Michael Eden Says:

Thank you for asking. My mother Bev is doing fine recovering from her surgery. She is expected to begin her next round of chemo around the end of March/beginning of April. So there’s a tough road ahead of her yet. Prayers that she handle the 2nd round of chemo as well as she did the first.

It is remarkable how Obama touts his commitment to veterans, and then pulls a stunt like this.

  3. hl Says:

I’m glad for the good report on your mom and will keep praying.

  4. Michael Eden Says:

    Thanks, HL.
She’ll be starting her next round of chemo about the first week of April. Prayers that she handle the chemo well, and that it does it’s job on her cancer.

    Hi Michael,
You probably have already read this, if not here it is…..very disturbing. Obama MUST be STOPPED!

I heard a blurb about the American Legion going after Obama, and the Obama response being, “We haven’t decided anything yet, so wait until after we’ve already taken away your care before you start to complain about what we’re planning to do” answer. But I missed the details. Thanks for providing them.

    Might necessitate another article!

We need to expose these people. And we need to provide a record of what they have done and said.

  7. Jane Stewart Says:

It is one thing not to like what the President does and to express that but it is another to make bold face lies as the author of this articl does. Maybe some folks are unknowing but I am not. I am a veteran, a 23 year veteran, a disabled veteran. Please stop lying. The below take from the article is a lie:
When the photo-op is over, Obama pulls back his arm and says, “Now why don’t you limp off somewhere else?”

  8. Michael Eden Says:

    Jane,
I almost deleted your comment because it amounts to more of a personal attack than a point.

I accurately reported that “that the Obama administration is considering a controversial plan to make veterans pay for treatment of service-related injuries with private insurance.”

I am not “making bold face lies” as you claim. I am stating facts, and offering my opinion of them.

I count on readers to be intelligent enough to understand that I was NOT trying to claim that Obama actually HAD given a stump speech in which he then ACTUALLY told a veteran to “go limp off somewhere.” What I was providing was a farcical description of what Obama is in fact doing: publicly patting veterans on the back even as he maneuvers to deny them the benefit they MOST have coming to them – treatment of their wounds and injuries. By taking that literally, and then accusing me of being a liar for saying it, you really impugn your own intelligence more than you do my honesty. Just sayin’.

If you think it would be great to have to start paying for your disabling injuries incurred while serving the country (while illegal immigrants keep getting their treatment for free), fine. If that’s what you want, I hope you pay up the wazoo for your treatment. But realize that a LOT of disabled veterans – myself included – see this policy as a MAJOR BACKSTABBING.

    Just as I truthfully said.

I respect your service, and honor you with the right to express your own views. But if you continue to attack me as “a liar,” you’ll have to do it somewhere else – as I won’t allow it here.

All I can say is where were you when Mr. Bush was running up the debt. Obama is not perfect by no means. However, he appears to be just alittle more honest and smarter the our previous Commander. Just for the record loved Bush 1.

  10. Michael Eden Says:

Let me cite some facts for you, Jmals:

There’s little question that the anvil will fall on the US economy due to the near doubling of the national debt as Obama adds a projected $9.3 trillion to the $11.7 trillion hole we’re already in. Obama is borrowing 50 cents on the dollar as he explodes the federal deficit by spending four times more than Bush spent in 2008 and in the process “adding more to the debt than all presidents — from George Washington to George Bush — combined.” And most terrifying of all, Obama’s spending will cause debt to double from 41% of GDP in 2008 to a crushing 82% of GDP in 2019.

What will be the result of all this insane spending, and not very far off? A quote from a CNS News story should awaken anyone who thinks the future will be rosy:

By 2019, the CBO said, a whopping 82 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP) will go to pay down the national debt. This means that in future years, the government could owe its creditors more than the goods and services that the entire economy can produce.

Kind of hard to fault Bush and praise Obama on spending, given that Obama has ALREADY done more debt spending than every president from George Washington to George Bush COMBINED.

  11. Scott Says:

I am tree-hugging, bleeding-heart, liberal democrat who happens to also be a 17-year veteran of the US Army collecting service-connected disability compensation, who indeed voted (with hopes of a much better government) for President Obama; HOWEVER, I agree that (if what I just read is completely accurate and true) there is absolutely NO EXCUSE or justification for making a veteran pay ANYTHING–either out-of-pocket or through private insurance–for medical treatment of service connected injuries or illnesses. I don’t care if that veteran went on to win the lottery for millions of dollars and could buy and sell us all! If he or she needs medical (or psychological) treatment for service-connected injuries or impairments, the VA (and the United States, generally) owes it to that veteran to provide and pay for that treatment. And I don’t want to hear any crock of your-know-what from anyone about “taxpayers’ dollars”. Veterans are taxpayers, too, dang it.

As for economic stimulus (unrelated topic); I agree, too, that there should not be such needs for them. If veterans and recipients of social security or other pensions were paid a fair and equitable amount of compensation to begin with, there would be no need to subsidise their (our) financial woes with any “stumulus”.

  12. Michael Eden Says:

While I’m not a bleeding-heart liberal Democrat, I have hugged my share of trees as well (who doesn’t love trees? They are awesome!).

I agree with everything you said. Veterans forfeit the right to sue; therefore, when they are injured, their care should be provided to them. It would be flatly wrong and immoral to require veterans to pay for their own injury care.

Hopefully, this fell apart due to criticism. But the mere fact that Obama even suggested this as a “fix” is very troubling.

  13. jackie cox Says:

this sounds anti-american, but the around 60,000 a year to each israeli citizen sounds insane, and obama is in lockstep with their agenda. I fear for americas citizrns under O
