Obama’s ‘Punch Drunk’ Interview His Marie Antoinette Moment

I call it Barack Obama’s “Marie Antoinette moment.”

Ouch!… 60 Minutes Reporter Asks Giggly Obama: “Are You Punch-Drunk?”

Steve Kroft from “60 Minutes” tore into a giggly Barack Obama during their interview that will air tonight.
The Pro-Obama reporter asks the giggling president, “Are you punch-drunk?”

Ouch!

punch-drunk– suffering cerebral injury usually from many minute brain hemorrhages that is a result of repeated head blows received in boxing and is typically marked by mental confusion, incoordination, and slurred speech

The Politico reported, via Free Republic:

President Barack Obama said he believes the global financial system remains at risk of implosion with the failure of Citigroup or AIG, touching off “an even more destructive recession and potentially depression.”

His remarks came in a “60 Minutes” interview in which he was pressed by an incredulous Steve Kroft for laughing and chuckling several times while discussing the perilous state of the world’s economy.

“You’re sitting here. And you’re— you are laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems. Are people going to look at this and say, “I mean, he’s sitting there just making jokes about money—” How do you deal with— I mean: explain. . .” Kroft asks at one point.

“Are you punch drunk?” Kroft says.

“No, no. There’s gotta be a little gallows humor to get you through the day,” Obama says, with a laugh.

Maybe The New York Post is right.
Maybe the Golden Boy is cracking up?

I can’t help but think back to the “terrible” interview that Sarah Palin had with Katie Couric.  Sarah Palin’s son Track departed for Iraq earlier the same day as the interview with Katie Couric.  Was it fair to destroy her for not having her A-game during a day when she should clearly be forgiven for being distracted?

And yet even Katie Couric didn’t have to ask Sarah Palin if she was “punch drunk.” Nor did she giggle like an idiot while being asked questions about the plunging economy and the suffering it was causing the American people.

At least the bad economy hasn’t distracted from the cocktail parties that the Obamas are hosting at the White House every Wednesday night for connected liberals.  Michlle Malkin notes that “this party atmosphere sends the wrong message.”

Well, only if you think the president literally giggling over the terrible economy is “the wrong message.”  I guess it’s kind of like that whole “It depends on what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is,” things.

Was Obama “high” or “stoned”? See the interview here and vote in a Word Press Poll. Read what US News & World Report & AOL News had to say : http://mcauleysworld.wordpress.com/2009/03/24/obama-on-60-minutes-you-vote-see-the-video-was-obama-high-or-punch-drunk/

without his teleprompter, and sometimes even with it, 0bama is a blithering idiot. I saw him make a brief statement lasting less than a minute about a week ago, and he had to have a teleprompter even for something that simple. On the other hand, I watched Gov. Palin deliver a 45 minute State of the State address where she didn’t use a teleprompter, and only glanced occasionally at her notes. Is it any wonder that his approval rating is dropping? The Zogby poll due out this week is said to show that he’s down to 50 50 now. The last Rasmussen poll released in late January showed Palin’s favorability rating at 52 percent, 3 percentage points up from the 49 right after the election. At the rate 0bama is dropping he could be as unpopular as Bush by this summer.

    You are so right!

Sarah Palin was sober and serious. I’m not so sure Obama wasn’t high, or something!

I am glad someone called him out on this. My gosh our economy is tumbling and he is sitting there laughing.A total disregad for the American people

This article is on target. Obama was unbelievably crass in the 60 minute interview. He came off looking very badly indeed. The interview with Governor Palin was not good but it didn’t reach this level of idiocy.

    mcauleysworld,

That is a VERY good article, with such a compendium of news sources questioning Obama’s behavior as “bizarre.” I appreciate your linking to it here. Keep up the good work!!!

Rush Limbaugh reported that Obama – contrary to the reports of many in the media – DID IN FACT HAVE A TELEPROMPTER.

Sarah Palin – if memory serves – DID use a teleprompter for her address, but it failed on her. She didn’t miss a beat, and one of her “ad lib” lines was NOT in the speech. Sarah Palin speaks mainly from her convictions.

Obama speaks mainly from his teleprompter, and has the ability to deliver a reading well (much like a television anchor). His convictions are whatever the teleprompter tells him to have at the moment.

We’ve got to keep chopping Obama down. The less popular he is, the less harm he can do in terms of advancing his agenda.

Sarah laid an egg with the Couric interview, no question about it. I think two things happened: 1) she was not focused, because her son had just deployed to Iraq. My mom told me when I left for the Army my dad (who never cries) cried; and I wasn’t going into a combat zone that day. 2) she was expecting a fair interview, in which she would be asked questions that allowed her to present herself to the country. Instead, Couric hit her with a tone of “everyone knows you don’t deserve to be Vice President; why on earth do you think otherwise, you bimbo?” And she frankly was probably more accustomed to punching a woman like Couric in the mouth than sitting there and politely answering her stupid questions.

Obama, of course, has never had to deal with such an obnoxious interview style; usually for him it’s, “You’re so, so wonderful! How is it that you can be so wonderful and not be a demigod?”

  10. Michael Eden Says:

Yes, and laughing like a “punch drunk” imbecile.

He might be laughing the way I would laugh if I were put in charge of the DNC; you know, when my whole agenda would be to undermine and destroy it, and here I am put in charge of it by the Democrats themselves. That would make me laugh during interviews.

  11. Michael Eden Says:

Sarah Palin impressed me greatly. It was amazing how the media tried to bring her down – the sheer triviality and hypocrisy of it (suggesting she should stay home and take care of her children, unlike Obama; implying that she was “attractive” and therefore stupid; that sort of thing). And I was even more surprised that it basically worked.

The media is despicable; but we are becoming a despicable people.

Sarah Palin’s personal background proved that she was the kind of person we need in the White House. She took on corruption – even in her own party; she had the courage to risk/sacrifice her own career when necessary to confront it; and she had the boldness to run against the Republican governor who was willing to look the other way while the corruption went on – and win.

  13. Michael Eden Says:

Whereas you are clearly nearly as smart as an ape, being able to string together 4 mono-syllabic words like that.

Such je ne sais quoi regarding your obvious brilliance. C’est magnifique!
