Michelle Obama Tries New Tact: ‘Okay, DON’T Let Them Eat Cake!’

We’re all familiar with the quote attributed to Marie Antoinette: “Let them eat cake.”  The phrase represents one who is at once out of touch and uncaring about the plight of the lower classes.

Well, Michelle Obama is every bit as out of touch as Marie Antoinette ever was.  But she’s a wily out-of-touch elitist, she is.

So she’s not going to make the same mistake as her famous French predecessor.  No, she’s going to make the exact opposite mistake.

So it’s “Don’t LET them eat cake.”

You stupid, moronic proletariat.  You are ontologically so far below Michelle Obama and her ilk that you don’t even qualify to call yourselves the same species.  How DARE you think that you have either the right or the ability to make eating decisions for yourself and your family???

How DARE you believe that you should have any right whatsoever to make your own life choices, you “nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents,” you.  So please insert the scalpel and disconnect your frontal lobes so that Mrs. “America is just downright mean!” make your basic life choices for you.

And whatever else you do, stop being proud of your vile, evil, greedy country.  Not only should you not get to eat, but you should be ashamed of yourselves for eating the few crumbs Dear Leader allows your family to stuff their faces with.

From ATR:

Perhaps it’s time for ATR to start asking First Ladies to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

Michelle Obama has embarked upon a well-documented campaign to tackle childhood obesity in America. As with similar social initiatives, it begins with the noblest of intentions only to morph into another big government program funded by new taxes aimed at behavior modification.

I won’t dispute that obesity is a problem in this country, nor that children are better off living healthy, active lives. What I do find troubling is the Task Force on Childhood Obesity‘s report calling for, among other things, a study of the impact of higher food taxes on obesity:

The task force also sees a potential pocketbook approach to keep people from buying unhealthy foods. It calls for analyzing the effect of imposing state and local sales taxes on less healthy products.

This is becoming an unwelcome refrain within the Obama Administration. The stimulus package signed into law in February contained hundreds of millions of dollars in spending to expressly advocated for tax increases. It’s also an established trend for left-of-center causes like the Campaign for Tobacoo Free Kids: Start with a good purpose, but slowly evolve into a platform for command-and-control economic policies.

I can agree that underage smoking and childhood obesity are problematic and should be curtailed. But government intervention into our lives, via high taxes and excessive regulation, is certainly not the answer. Rather than allowing people to make their own choices with regards to diet and exercise, the First Lady’s anti-obesity effort seems to be predicated on a reliable staple of the liberal playbook: government coercion.

As someone who was once on the very poor side, I can tell Michelle Obama and her fellow band of disconnected liberal whackjobs something that they don’t know: one of the reasons that poor people buy unhealthy foods is that they are a LOT cheaper than the healthy foods.  Go look at the fresh healthy nutritious foods and then compare them to the sugary and high-calorie foods.

It is expensive to eat fresh fruits and vegetables.  And boy is it ever expensive to eat fresh fish, as compared with regular ground beef.  From my experience, eating “healthy” costs at least double eating “unhealthy.”

Michelle Obama’s braindead solution to our problems is to raise the taxes on the only foods a lot of poor families can barely afford.

She’s not as bad as Marie Antoinette was, she’s in fact much WORSE.  Marie just said something stupid that didn’t actually hurt anyone.  Michelle Obama is seeking to implement policies that will directly hurt people.

The point is that Michelle Obama is ostensibly saying the exact opposite thing that Marie Antoinette infamously said when she now says, “Don’t LET them eat cake.”  But it is the same warped, disconnected, out-of-touch and uncaring statement from the same sort of elitist.

And just to add to the hypocrisy and chutzpah, even as Michelle is talking about taxing the hell out of anything she deems unhealthy, Barack Obama is in Buffalo porking out on a dozen buffalo wings, french fries, and onion rings.  And did I mention that they Hypocrite-in-Chief still smokes?  Because, again, you see, only THESE people get to decide what is healthy and what isn’t, and what they should be allowed to have, and what they shouldn’t.

Can we please wake up from this insane nightmare now???

The O’s HAVE GOT TO GO!

  2. Michael Eden Says:

It simply never ends, does it, HL?

It’s just one outrage, after another, after another.

It’s about time a Conservative commented on the ill considered “war on obesity” now being conducted by Mrs. Obama. What an insult to our nation’s mothers, to have govt. now monitoring their children’s diets! I can understand a bully pulpet push to “wellness”; more cooperation from private enterprise, etc but this far exceeds a bully pulpet. She’ll want your pediatricians submitting records, and school nurses “working with” “obese” kids. I hear her speak out of 2 sides of her mouth, “this is not about appearance, it’s deep feelings relating to self-image” type speeches.

I did hear one eloquent doctor, who specializes in obesity issues, really slam 1st Lady’s “campaign”. He claimed she was using programs and older modalities that were PROVEN IN STUDY AFTER STUDY not to work well in actually reducing wt. loss for any substantial period of time. IOW, she wants us to waste MORE MONEY (just what our country needs) on programs that do not work. Bottom line: There is no cure, at present time for obesity. Yes, it is a problem, but this is NOT the correct way for a democratic govt to be solving a problem that involves personal choice and behavior.

Thank you for elightening folks as to how dangerous a precident this War on Obesity is! Let’s do start looking at good candidates for 2012!

  4. Michael Eden Says:

Oh, oh, Frosty. You’re onto the truth. That means you must be ridiculed, discredited, or intimidated into silence.

Michelle’s diet garbage is the flip side of ObamaCare; and both are out to undermine and destroy your liberty.

Ronald Reagan probably put it best in a speech he gave. Among other things, he said:

“One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It’s very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project. Most people are a little reluctant to oppose anything that suggests medical care for people who possibly can’t afford it.

Now, the American people, if you put it to them about socialized medicine and gave them a chance to choose, would unhesitatingly vote against it. We had an example of this. Under the Truman administration it was proposed that we have a compulsory health insurance program for all people in the United States, and, of course, the American people unhesitatingly rejected this.

So with the American people on record as not wanting socialized medicine, Congressman Ferrand said, if we can only break through and get our foot inside the door, they can we can expand the program after that. Well, let’s see what the socialists themselves had to say about it. They say once the Ferrand bill is passed, this nation will be provided with a mechanism for socialized medicine capable of indefinite expansion in every direction until it includes the entire population. Well, we can’t say we haven’t been warned.

James Madison in 1788, speaking to the Virginia Convention said: ‘Since the general civilization of mankind, I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachment of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpations.'”

Michelle’s program is all about taxation, control, and power.

  5. frosty7530 Says:

Dear Mr. Eden: Thnx for your support and eloquent response:). Great minds do think alike! I am always intrigued by Reagan’s profound faith in the ability of private enterprise, conservative compassion & volunteerism to provide better quality of life programs, than starting Govt. responses to all our problems. The Obamas don’t seem to “get” that, do they? Michelle may have made a great advocate if she had used more of an appeal to private sector. Also using a more optimistic less heavy-handed, invasive approach.
Sadly, she has a reputation for being very domineering & overbearing! You might recall that during the campaign, the unusual word “annoying” was what most reporters described her being. We have not had that kind of first lady before, except Nancy Reagan, who also had capacity to be very charming. Nancy also had better capability of serving as First Lady; she was blessed with refinement. Can’t make a silk purse out of sow’s ear! Especially if the Sow thinks she is a Satin Doll!

In terms of medicine, I recall being a kid growing up in 1950’s/60’s when doctors and hospitals all had free clinics for poor patients. The doctors rotated their time, those serving in medicine seemed to take pride in serving the poor. The doctors I knew were very well off, financially. Dong much better than, they they are now in HMO programs. We did not hear nightmare stories of pt. dumping (and Michelle was involved in some of that!). Poor people got taken of. I think we need to look back, a bit, in time. See if we can get 1950’s values back in medicine, encouraging more doctors to do good in private. We can never go completely backwards, but we can sure move forward in a much more humane manner!

I do appreciate your being sensetive about the social barriers, Conservatives in these times face. I happen to live in a very diversified area of Philadelphia, the Bohemian, historic, Germantown District. I will never forget the night Obama won. I had to admit it was very gratifying to see my Black neighbors being so grateful and proud of that moment in time! Most of them admitted to me they never thought they would see a Black man elected President in their lifetimes. It is very tragic that we were all so duped. One black friend of mine, who is my age of 62, never felt comfortable with Obama. He thought Hillary more capable and effective advocate for urban causes. He thinks Obama promised too much, that the writing was on the wall before his term even began I am blessed with having wonderful neighbors. I don’t discuss Obama at all with them. I think most of them know he is screwing up real bad! As a Jew, now painfully watching Rham Emanuel dealing with the most anti-Semetic President since Nixon (and far worse than Nixon, I am afraid); I know how brutal ethnicity gets. When Obama spit upon Israelie P.M., I felt personally offended as well. I just pray Rhambo leaves ASAP, and
tells a scathing tale, a best-seller just in time for 2010!

Thanks again, Mr. Eden, I look forward to seeing more of your writing!

  6. Michael Eden Says:

I would STILL love to see a black man – or woman – elected president. But that said, it would be nice if that president actually had experience, and actually had a morally sane worldview.

I’m always more than a little disturbed by the innate hypocrisy of leftist race-based thinking: if it is appropriate for blacks to vote for a black candidate because he’s black, and it’s okay to have the NAACP, the National Black Caucus, the Black Chamber of Commerce, black colleges and universities, etc. etc., then on what moral basis is it wrong for whites to do the same and develop the same institutions. Say what you will, but whites got rid of the “white only” drinking fountains; when will black people do the same???

Nancy Reagan started an anti-drug campaign called, “Just Say No.” The media attacked her because they’re evil and because they’re socialists. Michelle Obama is now pursuing her campaign that is basically titled, “Force Them To NOT Be Able To Say Yes.” Big government being the solution to everything.

    As Michelle once said:

“Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed.”

Spoken like the wife of a true demagogic dictator. Obama has all kinds of requirements and demands. And there are all kinds of things he will never allow us to do. Because he’s prepared to unleash the full weight and power of Big Brother government upon us.

I appreciate your encouragement, and the experience and wisdom from which you generate your comments.

I know that God will take care of my family and I. I only hope that enough Americans return to the simple statement, “God bless America” (as opposed to Obama’s reverend who prays for the opposite), before it’s too late.

    nice site.. very interesting!!!

  8. tiny Says:

Whoever said it, IT IS CORRECT!
Eating fresh nutricious food is too expensive.
Many of us cannot afford this luxury.

The Catholic Church one time allowed no
meat on Friday. This was followed faithfully.
However – fresh fish got too expensive and
the church knew the people could no longer
afford it. Thus Friday is now just another
day of the week for Catholics.

Seafood restaurants are not for those who
are feeling the pain of OBAMA on their jobs
and their lousey incomes. Yet – OBAMA and
his frau will continue to tell us how delicious
their meals have been in the Whitehouse.
And, especially those WAYGU $100 steaks!

What a sad bunch of losers are in OUR HOUSE!

  9. terr Says:

If Michelle could not feed OBAMA correctly to
prevent his “worms” problem. How can we
    trust her with our kids?

  10. Michael Eden Says:

I hadn’t heard about that. I googled Obama and worms and found out he’s got tapeworms.

Probably alien tapeworms that are controlling him to destroy the planet from within.

But, yeah, your theory about how the Obama’s have intruded into our children’s diets – given this development – is pretty darned pathetic.

  11. Michael Eden Says:

    Tiny,

    We’re on the same page.

My favorite meat is fish, and tuna aside, there is no way I can afford it nearly as often as I would like to eat it.

Energy and food prices are skyrocketing right now partly due to inflation, and partly due to Obama’s plan beginning to come to fruition.

Quote: “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe” — Stephen Chu, Obama’s energy secretary.

Energy prices are one of the biggest factors in food production.

  12. Frosty7530 Says:

Hi Mr. Eden, today I got an e-mail from u, I think it was connected to remarks I made earlier in May, 2010 in re Michelle’s Let’s Move Program. I guess this sad project is still causing problems. I was just starting to like Sarah Palin, more, for her comments on Michelle. Sadly, Sarah is really catching Hell from the Press, now! I am not a real strong supporter of Sarah Palin. I don’t think she can walk into our WH & do the job, UNLESS, she takes some very capable, high-powered folks w/her. I am convinced that electing Sarah Palin would be a vote for a plutocracy. Sarah would be the “great communicator” for those quietly steering the ship. I have too much respect for the reality of the Oval Office. We need a wise, experienced leader like at no other time! Our present POTUS had a stellar record at Harvard, (there are also gaps in his academic record, as well) but he also has limited knowlege/experience of Presidential Politics and we know he is struggling. We can’t afford another ignorant President. Had Sarah gone back to school, a place like Georgetown or Johns-Hopkins w/a solid Poli-Sci or Govt program, she would have more respect from me.
I’m not sure why I rec’d a post from you, sir, although it’s great to hear from you! I do apologise for going off-top re Sarah Palin, perhaps your response, today, was in re to Sarah’s outspoken comments on “Let’s Move”, very similar to mine! This inicident in AZ was not something conservatives needed! Hopefully, it will be “tommorow’s news” soon! I just saw one headline comparing it to 9/11. That is wrong, and stupid. This is about one sick ticket acting out. If MM were responding intellegently, they would be looking at reforms in Psychiatry, our low value on mental health, and NOT using this to teach lessons re the Tea Parties. Keep up your good work, Mr. Eden!

  13. Michael Eden Says:

You had probably subscribed to this thread and received notification via email. I looked down a little, and saw that others had posted recently to this article, but didn’t see one from you leap out at me.

Anyway, no problem talking about Sarah Palin.

Personally, I have an incredible degree of respect for her. But I hope she keeps doing what she’s doing, rather than run for president.

I share you view that I would like to see the next president have FAR more experience than the useless hack in office now. And while S.P. has more experience that Obama did when he was elected, she still needs more, IMO. And, further, I agree with you that – through no fault of her own – she has been isolated in Alaska, and would have a difficult time assembling a cabinet apart from basically relying on the “Bush Brain Trust.” She simply can’t know the people she needs to know. That said, she CAN get to know them in time if she keeps working doing what she’s been doing.

The other thing about Palin is that she’s a lightening rod. Again, through no fault of her own. It’s like Jesus and demons. Liberals sense her, and they just go insane. And they spew unbelievable levels of hate.

On that, my fear is this: Sarah could persuade conservatives to support her, but I think the sheer vicious demonic hate she gets from even so-called “objective” journalists would poison the minds of the independents she needs to get elected.

All that said, I think she’d make a great president if she could get into office. The woman has rare common sense, she has Reagan’s gift of getting to the heart of a matter in a few words, she is absolutely fearless and she’s got her principles and worldview in the right place.

Education? I would argue that our three worst presidents in the last 100 years (Woodrow Wilson, Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama) were our best educated. And I would argue that education is ONLY good if you’re learning truth instead of lies. I would submit that an educated liberal has been steeped in a profoundly biased and distorted worldview and cannot even possibly understand the world as it actually is. They live in a world of theories.

A statement from Willie Wonka sums them up well: In a world of pure imagination what you see will defy explanation. That and “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools” (Romans 1:22).

I personally genuinely admire Sarah Palin.

The events of the last couple of weeks, however, underscore why I don’t think Palin could get elected. She was attacked viciously and hatefully by people who had no right or reason to do so. And yet she took a hit in the polls. Why? Because, I think, when there’s SO MUCH attack dumped on her, people who aren’t really following the news (and who NEVER really follow the news) say, “She must have done SOMETHING wrong, or she wouldn’t be getting so much heat.” They just can’t understand just how despicably biased the mainstream media is today.

The biggest problem in “mental health” was that liberals essentially made it virtually impossible for the mentally insane to be committed without their consent. The idea (advanced by liberal psychologists, btw) was that “the insane person is actually a sane person trying to cope with an insane world.” And it is society that is to blame, society which is crazy. Which is to say that liberalism fails again.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

  14. Frosty7530 Says:

    Dear Mike:

It is awful watching the public responding to this with so much hysteria. This is not the first time we have had crazy people shooting madly & out of control. To compare it to 9/11, which is what too many are doing, is not right. I recall that crazy Muslim psychiatrist who killed/blew up a bunch of folks not long ago. He was even an army shrink, and he fell through all the cracks! We heard about him for a couple of days, and it was over.

We started getting lets of “we must not stereotype or mistreat Muslim” lectures, instead. Right now, my passion of the moment is to support this Congressman King from NY who is chairman of a committee that wants to look into the doings of our nation’s mosques and Islamic communities. It is unbelievable that people want to stop him from researching our enemy. We have idiots like Mayor Bloomberg who want to stop his work. Bloomberg has no business sticking his neck into the work of congress! They say Rep. King is not PC and is encouraging anti-Muslim feelings.

I just went balistic reading about my fellow Jews, of all people, to be buying into this “PC” ethic that we don’t have “Muslim Terrorists”, just terrorists. I hope conservatives help Mr. King in his unpopular work, of keeping us safe from another visit from the same folks who produced 9/11!

As for your comments on the state of psychiatry: you will be happy to know that the old pop psychology of Thomas Szass & RD Laing, a neo-freudian form of humanistic psychiatry is buried, dead and gone. Unfortunately, we have not really gotten any better in that field. We have a few new medications, but what happens of patients can not take/benefit from them? We have cut hospitalization time to 1 week. That is ridiculous. And, yes, sadly, we have not found a good method of housing long term patients. We put them out into the streets 40 years ago, and they are still wandering around. Younger doctors don’t want to practice psychiatry because it pays so little and now, they are very restricted in the types of therapy they can provide. In hospitals, they are only allowed to meet w/pt. for 15 min. medication mgmt meetings. The object is to wean shrinks completely from doing therapy & having them be like neurologists. The problem? The medications just are not the same type of cures that antibiotics or diabetic provide. You would think that human mind would be the most important part of medicine, instead, it is the sewer!

As for Sarah Palin, I still maintain she needs to educate herself. What you describe as her being “fearless” is exactly what I fear most about her. That she will not recognize her limits. If she really understood what being president was all about, she would have common sense to know that she is not qualified for that. I don’t think her devoted followers will leave her; I agree that the Independents might be influenced by the way she is being demonized. It will be interesting.

In the meantime, it’s just been published that Obama that Obama was gifted w/millions of $’s worth of jewels and rare gifts by the King of Saudi Arabia! No wonder our President bowed so gracefully to him! I always thought our modern presidents were not allowed to accept gifts over a certain amt. I guess we no longer do that. Pres. Obama’s office said that e king.

  15. Michael Eden Says:

    Frosty,

It’s interesting to step back and watch the last gasps of this republic, and recognized that it has doomed itself just as so many other civilizations before. And what has caused this fall? Amorality and the stupidity it brings, on my view. I recall a Dwight Macdonald article in which he compared culture to a reciprocating engine whose stroke and counterstroke inevitably drive the whole culture to and and down the market sewer.

It’s all about rights now, and nothing about duties. Our ancestors would not have understood “rights.” They thought in terms of morality and/or in terms of duties. But what is ignored is that when someone has a “right,” it presupposes that society, or other people, have a duty to provide that right. Thus in Berkeley I have a right as a city employee to a “gender reassignment,” and therefore everyone else must have the duty to pay for it. I have a right to “choose” to abort my baby, which presupposes that the baby has a duty to die for the convenience of mama. And it is no wonder that MTV, in this climate, actually contacted the New York Slimes and said of its upcoming degeneracy series, “We might have crossed the line into child porn,” knowing that it will actually HELP them get higher ratings!!!

And thus we get on Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride of moralizing. It’s wrong to prejudge Muslims – irregardless that 99.99999% of terrorist acts have been committed by this group and by the Islamic worldview. And yet the same group has not one iota of qualm about immediately demonizing conservatives for being responsible for the Tucson, AZ shootings without so much as a shred of evidence. And they can do it because we have so utterly degenerated as a culture that the first one to descend to the lowest common denominator wins.

The field of psychology has always had its influential fools who imported secular humanism and the degenerate values that accompanied said atheism into their “treatment.” But, on my view, psychology reached its nadir when the The American Psychiatric Association – representing itself as the sum total of the field of psychology – used the criterion of political correctness to remove homosexuality from the list of personality disorders and pronounce it “healthy.” And it was this same “thinking” that led the field to determine that housing (or as they would put it “caging”) mentally ill people against their consent was wrong. We’re all healthy (except conservatives and Christians). Society is to blame (especially when we can blame Christians and conservatives for said society). And how dare we actually hold individuals responsible for their own choices and their own outcomes!

Part of the reason that we’re prescribing drugs for every mental condition under the sun is that same atheistic/materialistic view that maintains that we are all evolutionary meat puppets rather than men and women created in the image of God. That, and of the course the government taking over health care in the 1960s and deciding what should and shouldn’t be paid for. We talk about the government taking over health care via ObamaCare; what we forget is that well over half of our health care has ALREADY been taken over by the federal government.

All we can do is agree to disagree about Sarah Palin. I think she’s brilliant. She changed the nature of the debate on ObamaCare with one Facebook entry while on vacation by pointing out that it would lead to “death panels.” And she has hit the nail on the head many times since. If I thought that our universities were actually realms that TAUGHT rather than INDOCTRINATED, maybe I’d think Palin could use more “education.” But going back to something I said earlier, if Sarah Palin went to most colleges today, there is a significant probability that she would be the only grown-up she ever encountered in a classroom who didn’t think that conservatism and evangelical Christianity were NOT mental disorders.

George Orwell stated that some ideas are so foolish that only an intellectual could believe them, for no ordinary man could be such a fool. And that is because human minds can accept the most outrageous of lies once the Truth has been removed from consideration. And there is no institution in our society that has purged Truth from consideration more than our universities.

And one of the things I like about Sarah Palin is that she understands that. I call her “fearless” not because she lacks the intelligence to understand how stupid she is, but because she sees the massive array of pseudo-intellectual and amoral-yet-incredibly-self-righteous people and groups that come unglued at the mere mention of her name, and she stands up against them and takes them on when too many others flinch under a fraction of the pressure she faces.

That said, I think at this time (meaning at least the next two or three presidential elections), Sarah Palin is better off doing what she’s doing: identifying and supporting political candidates, and being a spokesperson for conservatism. And the kind of education that she needs (she certainly can expand) will not come from the Marxist professors at some university that Obama chose for his friends.

We don’t need more of that “education” in the White House.

Btw, the gifts that the Obamas received were cataloged and sent to the national archives. Presidents are NOT allowed to accept gifts more than a certain amount.

Obama bows down to leaders of other countries because he thinks that America is a nation that should be bowing down.

  16. Frosty7530 Says:

Thank U 4 informing me re rules pertaining to U.S. Presidents & Gifts From Foreign Leaders/Countries. I knew we had rules/regs on that, because the issue does come up on occasion. The article I got the info on the Arab gifts, interestingly did not mention that the Obama’s could “receive” the gifts, and then pass them on to appropriate museums etc. Article just printed, that when the Obamas were confronted on the gifts; they just replied it would be a “major insult” to the Saudis; if they rejected gifts. I hope that some internal agency will very vigalant re Obama’s, especially when they get ready move out!! I know you are right; I just fear that little discussed ruling on gifts may have been reversed when I was not looking.

In re to Liberal Colleges/Universities, we do have some fine Conservative schools, like Pepperdine in Malibu, CA, The University of Southern California has a large Republican population/alumni influence; Vanderbilt in TN, there are some in TX, one of them has a great medical school, AND, I forgot it’s name. The Catholic Church has some very conservative, smaller colleges.
Of course, there is Bob Jones Univ and Liberty College (which even some Conservatives feel are too conservative). A very fascinating book, I read, is God’s Harvard. Oh, that was a very good bk re a new Christian Fundamentalist College, that the Bush Administration really liked. W. hired several of their graduates and tried to place as many students, as possible, into the “internship” programs in DC. The bk gave me a better understanding of the Christian Fundamentalist-Evangelical Movement. I had no idea that “home schooling” was so important with this group. Having lived in large cities, I would think the Christian Parochial Schools would be a good choice for these kids. I am refering to very conservative schools. They have strict rules & regs. Their courses are consistant with what the leaders/ministers of Fundamentalist churches want taught. In my not so humble opinion, I think kids have lots to gain by being with other children, learning team-work (not in socialist ways), having the types of extra-curricular activites that Christian parents feel comfortable with. The college written about in G*d’s Harvard also taught their students how to work with moderate & liberal people; they kept the kids sheltered; but with the aim of helping them adjust and be aware of the secular world. The students here did lots of political work, campaigning and working in Congressional offices.

I would love to read about this school, 10 yrs from now. I am wondering how those kids are doing with Obama in WH. I imagine they are busy trying to help get Obama’s out of WH! We don’t need to worry about Sarah having to attend a school like Harvard or Columbia. Just put her in Pepperdine and let them polish her up a bit. Give her tools to work with, as Liberals would say! She could also be doing this online/with real-time input to match her schedule. Conservative think tanks like Gingrich’s and American Values could help assist. I do agree her voice should be heard and listened to. She should be respected and not hooted off stage as a Wing Nut.

  17. Michael Eden Says:

There ARE good universities, of course: I graduated from Talbot School of Theology, which is the graduate school of Biola University – an excellent conservative university.

But conservative schools are like a drop of ink in an ocean of liberal colleges and liberal professors. Studies show that more than 90% of professors are self-acknowledged political liberals.

Home schooling is excellent, especially for parents who can’t afford the tuition of private schools and can’t get a scholarship. My view is this: I’ll try the public school and watch what my kid is learning like a hawk watching a squirrel. And the nanosecond I see something I don’t like, I’m yanking my kid.

Homeschooled kids routinely outscore public school and even private school kids on SATs, for what it’s worth.

Do kids need to have the social relationships with other kids? Of course they do. And the overwhelming majority of home schooling curricula and home schooling parents recognize that. Which is why you see homeschooled kids in team sports and in organizations such as Boy Scouts.

Personally, I would view home schooling as an option of last resort. But I’d be willing to do it rather than let my kid get brainwashed by union hacks in a government school run amok.

I actually taught in a public school long ago. There were some good teachers there. But there were too many rabid loons. And when you have a system that encourages teachers to tow the line for three years, and then be loons with near impunity, it aint a healthy system.

I myself think that if Sarah Palin graduated from Pepperdine, it wouldn’t help her image in the lamestream media one iota. They’d demonize her just as much with the funny square cap with the funky tassel as they would now, on my view.

But I agree with you that she needs to continue to learn, and to be able to show us that she’s been learning.
