Obama routinely demonizes rich. He tells us they’re not good people, that they don’t care, that they don’t pay their fair share even though they pay MORE than their fair share when you consider the fact that nearly half of Americans pay no federal income tax at all.
There’s just one problem with Obama’s demagoguery.
If you think the rich are evil and greedy, then why do you not think that if they get their taxes raised, they won’t just pass those taxes onto you in the form of higher prices?
Here’s the thing about taxes on the rich: all the rich would have to pay them, and all the rich would have their taxes increased by the same percentage, and they would all have their taxes increased at the same time.
If you raise the taxes of the rich (who own and run all the businesses), you wouldn’t get everyone raising their prices right away, nor would they all raise their prices by the same amount. But every single owner and chief executive is going to face the same increase of cost in doing business. And over time – if there is anything in the universe called “equilibrium” – they will raise their prices for their products to compensate for that higher cost of doing business.
And given that the 2nd law of thermodynamics – which is ALL ABOUT a system’s tendency to reach equilibrium – is one of the best attested principles of science, I would argue that voting to raise taxes on the people who run the businesses is pretty much a 100% guarantee that you will be raising taxes on yourself via higher prices.
The only businesses that will suffer, and the only “rich people” who will lose their “riches,” will be the smaller small businesses who don’t have the resources to last through the transition period which will ultimately end with the customers paying the higher prices and thus the higher taxes. Businesses will pass their higher taxes onto the consumers who buy their products.
Think of automotive tires. Let’s say you increase the taxes of every single tire producer and dealer by 10%. Do you seriously not think that, over time, you won’t end up paying the lion’s share of that 10% increase in higher prices for tires? And it frankly doesn’t matter what product or service we’re talking about. If you want the lowest prices, keep taxes down and the government off the backs of the producers, distributors and sellers, and allow them to have a fair fight with each other to compete for your business.
Think I’m wrong? Keep reading.
There’s this other little fact that the leftist demagogues never bother to pay attention to: lower tax rates on the rich actually invariably result in the rich paying a higher percentage of all taxes paid:
In 1980, the top 1 percent of earners paid 19 percent of income taxes, and the bottom half of earners paid 7.1 percent. A decade later, with a lower maximum rate, the top 1 percent paid 25 percent of taxes, while the bottom earners paid just 5.8 percent. By 2008, top earners paid 38 percent of taxes, the bottom half 2.7 percent.
Put another way, when you examine the Treasury Department data in lieu of the Bush tax cuts:
The rich are now paying more than they would have paid, not less, after the Bush investment tax cuts. For example, the Treasury’s estimate was that the top 1 percent of earners would pay 31 percent of taxes if the Bush cuts did not go into effect; with the cuts, they actually paid 37 percent. Similarly, the share of the top 10 percent of earners was estimated at 63 percent without the cuts; they actually paid 68 percent.
Which is to say that if I really hated people who weren’t rich, I would show my hate by raising the tax rates of the rich.
It’s a Charlie Brown thing. As long as that bald fool keeps thinking he’s going to kick the football with Lucy holding it, he’s going to keep ending up flat on his back in pain.
In a war, in a game of strategy, or in many sports, the very best and most ruthless way to win is to make your opponent think that if he does X he will gain an advantage. But the moment he does X, you seize the advantage and destroy him. And as long as the poorer classes keep falling for this Marxist demagogic class warfare trick, they’re going to keep screwing themselves.
There are a number of reasons for why keeping low tax rates for the rich results in their paying a higher percentage of taxes paid. Most basically, if you allow the rich to keep more of their profits, they will invest more and take more risks. And the result is more opportunity and more jobs for all. If you demagogue the rich and try to seize more of their profits, they will shelter their money and act in ways that hurt the overall economy and most definitely hurt the poor.
That is the short of a much longer article I wrote entitled, “Tax Cuts Increase Revenues; They Have ALWAYS Increased Revenues.” And there’s only about a hundred years worth of data (which you will see in the article) that proves the basic statement of that article is true.
So, if you allow Barack Obama to be your Lucy and trick you into trying to kick the rich, all you’re going to end up doing is hurting yourself and hurting the economy. You’re going to end up flat on your back just like Charlie Brown, and Obama as Lucy will keep playing the same trick on you over and over again.

You can’t kill the goose and expect the golden eggs to keep coming.
April 26, 2011 at 2:22 pm
The golden goose was machine-gunned to death in what the Spanish fascists liked to call a “spandau ballet.”
Unless you’re General Electric, of course. Obama LOVES corporations that follow their Fuhrer’s marching orders.

Obama is a communist president who has proven time and time again that he doesnt care about the USA or the Constitution. He believes that you can take money from the rich and give money to the poor and make everyone equal. That is the definition of COMMUNISM my friends. Now, everyone who voted for him is scratching there heads and wondered what happend. He needs to go back to the Communist/Muslim world he came from and leave the greatest country in the world alone!
May 3, 2011 at 3:41 pm
Agree, Sam.
The central defining statement of Marxism was Marxism’s statement: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”
How would a big government liberal say this is not EXACTLY their view???
Liberals must take this quintessential essence of Marxism and rephrase it. But the modern Democrat Party is in its essence Marxist.
Combine that with the fact that liberals want an all powerful STATE, and you’ve got a big, big problem.
June 7, 2011 at 12:37 pm
karl marx and engels deliberately developed and wrote a fatally flawed system, communism. The system only worked because the russian people were lead by some of the greatest hearts and minds the world has seen.
the system was designed to fail by marx and engels. The russian people made a booby-trapped system productive.
June 7, 2011 at 3:04 pm
I can see your heart is in the right place, Anonymous.
I would argue that communism NEVER worked. the commissar class massively exploited the working Russians and created a powerful military dictatorship that was guaranteed to fail.
As for your description of the Russian people, I agree with you. It was an incredibly hardy and courageous people who stopped Hitler (especially at Stalingrad).

yeah right, “if we tax the rich, they wont be able to create jobs, they will have to lay people off” Gee Wiz, Am I just stupid or am I missing the part that since the Bush tax cuts were enacted the economy has consistenly lost more and more jobs, but the kicker is the wealthliest 2% have continued to thrive and record profits through the roof. Over and over, year after year. Trickle down economics dont work, unless you are rich. The whole “if you tax me more I will move my company to a third world country” mentality, is straight up extortion in its purest form. I work hard for my money week in, week out. Yes govt is too big, yes the unions are corrupt and worthless, and yes social programs are exploited by the lazy day in and day out. But that does not mean the rich dont do this a million times worse every day. A rebuttal to the comments above, if the rich are taxed too much and the poor are taxed to little, than why do we have the widest class gap between rich and poor in our countrys history? Because the rich are getting screwed right? Do you people really believe your own lies? Shame on you all! Its not Left vs Right, Rich vs Poor. It is just the lust for power and greed that has been the downfall of every great society in HISTORY! But wait, I’m wrong, its really just old people’s Medicare and poor people’s Food Stamps that are to blame for the mess we are in.

Hey Anonymous,
All you need to provide to prove yourself right is evidence that POOR PEOPLE CREATE THE DAMN JOBS.
Oh, Don’t have any such evidence because they don’t? Well, too bad for your pooh-poohing on trickle down.
Here’s another one: the luxury tax.
From THE NEW YORK TIMES of all places:
Here’s another take on the same issue:
Notice how this was the Democrat Party’s theory on taxes and the rich in microcosm: the rich can and should pay more, and they won’t even notice. Except it’s nothing more than a asinine Marxist fantasy.
Democrats ended up repealing that tax because it was KILLING the little guys who manufactured and maintained and cleaned yachts.
And oh my God, that sounds EXACTLY like what Obama is proposing now about punishing the businesses that manufacture corporate jets and the maintenence employees that service and clean them. Because liberals like you are pathologically incapable of learning anything.
And you people are just the worst kind of demagogues and weasels. Obama is demonizing the corporate jet tax breaks: HE’S THE WEASEL WHO SIGNED THEM INTO LAW IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!
You people are just such dumbasses it is utterly unreal. When you tax rich people and businesses, they shelter their money to avoid paying taxes, which means that money isn’t available for investment and job creation; and they lay off workers to cut to the bone to keep their companies going.
I just documented how this works today. And Democrats are no more capable of understanding the lesson than cockroaches are capable of understanding nuclear physics.
Now, you mention something that simply is bullcrap. That since the Bush tax cuts the economy has lost jobs. You are a liar and a fool.
This link is to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It provides the annual unemployment rates of presidents that includes both the Clinton and Bush II administrations. And guess what? BOTH PRESIDENTS AVERAGED THE SAME UNEMPLOYMENT RATE OF 5.2%.
And let’s recall that Bill Clinton’s economic improvements DIDN’T happen until after he famously said “the era of big government is over.” While income taxes went up under Clinton, THE CAPITAL GAINS TAX GOT CUT DRAMATICALLY.
Following Bush’s tax cuts, Bush had an unprecedented 52 consecutive months of job growth. George Bush created 8 million jobs.
As a result of the Bush tax cuts, not only did revenues rise massively, but the rich paid a higher percentage of the total tax revenues. Both facts and more are documented here: https://startthinkingright.wordpress.com/2010/09/08/tax-cuts-increase-revenues-they-have-always-increased-revenues/
Now, why is it that the we aren’t getting jobs even though the Bush tax cuts are still in effect? Two things: 1) is uncertainty, as businesses and rich people constantly hear Obama and Democrats threaten to tax them. As we speak Obama already increased taxes by $500 billion as part of his ObamaCare. Which already proves that you are lying when you claim that we’re still under Bush era tax policies. And Obama is threatening to go after ANOTHER TRILLION DOLLARS IN TAXES NOW. That scares people and businesses away from investing and expanding. 2) Things like Obama-Care, the Dodd-Frank Act, the attacks by the NLRB against Boeing, and the numerous EPA attacks on business. Regulations cost businesses more in compliance than they pay in income taxes and more than they generate in profits. And Obama has regulated the bloody piss out of them, They are waiting him out. They won’t create jobs until Obama is gone and the Democrats’ power is broken (they still have total control of the White House and the US Senate).
As a result of Obama’s demonic demagogic class warfare policies that punish workers by forcing employers to cut their workforces, black people have been set back DECADES. And women are losing ground. Obama is HURTING the poor while falsely and cynically claiming to be helping them.
You freaking Democrats are simply beyond amazing. You were in total control of both the House and the Senate from 2007 until just a few months ago. You ran ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING for the first 2 years of the Obama regime. And yet you people are simply pathologically incapable of taking any responsibility for absolutely anything at all.
So you just take your anti-American Marxist load of toxic sewage somewhere else, loser.
July 28, 2011 at 8:18 pm
I find it kind of sad that everyone on here is attacking Obama about raising the taxes on the rich to make them pull their own weight. Here’s the main issues I have with the economy. First off, we ship jobs overseas and down to Mexico to “save money for the consumer” but you just lost hundreds of jobs. Those jobs, especially down in Mexico, produce even worse product than what is made in the states so there goes the cost in waste products that were created. Plus, companies are now forcing lower wages on employees by threatening the employees who’ve worked there longer to lose benefits and such.
Than, to top it off, they say they are trying to reduce costs so products are cheap… lol, I have never seen anything ever drop in prices… Not to mention when it comes to the automotive industries, the United States Automotive Industries are allowed to have more flaws compared to the the Foreign Automotive Industries. AND not to mention, the best lines that these companies have, they shut them down because they are not making profit.
Anyways, the biggest farce is to sit by and watch Bush get off scott free from war crimes. Yes, he did commit war crimes when it came to invading Iraq on the so called wild goose chase for weapons of mass destruction. I still to this day could never understand why we invaded. I guess its unamerican of me to sit back and say that… oh wait, it isn’t because its the TRUTH. Sorry, I have lost faith in the Government. It has never been about us. Maybe if the Rich would lower how much they make and actually spread it out. Seriously, why the heck does Ford need to make (last time I checked) $46 Million a year for? And sit there and cry because he’s getting taxed a little more. The AVERAGE American don’t actually start making money till July. The first six months is spent paying off taxes. People want a better way of life, but who’s willing to actually try? I don’t see the people with the wealth actually trying to help people out. So maybe if they wanna keep those millions instead of creating jobs for American people, I guess its their loss.
July 28, 2011 at 10:04 pm
You know what makes me sad, Trevor? People like you who keep saying idiotic things like “raising the taxes on the rich to make them pull their own weight.”
The wealthiest 1 percent of the population earn 19 percent of the income but pay 38 percent of the income tax. The top 10 percent pay 70 percent of the tab. Meanwhile, the bottom 49% pay ZERO PERCENT of taxes. And yet, remarkably, you still think like a greedy little Marxist and play the class warfare “fair share” and “pull their own weight” garbage.
It is a proven fact that raising tax rates 1) actually DECREASES the total tax revenues as the rich are forced to shelter themselves from people like you. Rather than being rewarded to risk their money and invest in jobs, you want to penalize them. So they say screw you and screw everybody like you. And everybody suffers, but the people you most hate and most want to hurt suffer least of all, while the poor you claim to be helping suffer most of all. And 2) raising tax rates invariably results in the poor paying a HIGHER share of taxes than they do when tax rates are cut.
It’s all right here: https://startthinkingright.wordpress.com/2010/09/08/tax-cuts-increase-revenues-they-have-always-increased-revenues/
And see the article here (particularly the chart showing how the rich and corporations paid less and less while the poor paid more and more as FDR raised tax rates): https://startthinkingright.wordpress.com/2011/07/11/ap-reported-fact-u-s-economy-the-worst-since-the-last-time-we-let-a-socialist-run-it/
We can go back to Calvin Coolidge. We can go back to John F. Kennedy. We can go back to Ronald Reagan. And we can go back to George W. Bush. Every single time we have ever cut the tax rate, we have seen a corresponding massive increase in tax revenues, with the wealthy actually paying more even as they were rewarded for the job-creating and economy-stimulating investments. Even Bill Clinton substantially cut the capital gains tax. Meanwhile, every single time we have ever raised taxes, we lost revenue because our economy shrank when investors sheltered their money and protected themselves.
Meanwhile, Obama is back to the same utterly failed Marxist class warfare tactics that have failed before. In the 1990s, Democrats imposed a “luxury tax” on items such as yachts, believing that the wealthy “could afford it.” Maybe they could and maybe they couldn’t, but the FACT was that the rich STOPPED buying yachts. As in stopped completely. As in NOBODY bought a yacht with that damn tax on it. The Democrats finally rescinded that stupid tax two years later after destroying the yach building and yacht maintenance industries and killing over 100,000 jobs. Rich people weren’t hurt at all; ordinary people were devastated.
And now Obama wants to do the same thing with corporate jets that previous Democrts did to yachts. And they only people who will get hurt if Obama gets his way are the companies that hire people to build and maintain those jets and the workers themselves who will lose their jobs and their livelihoods. And the only thing that is stopping this rape of businesses, workers and the economy that depends on workers and businesses are Republicans.
You bitch and whine about corporations sending jobs overseas, which is really kind of funny BECAUSE YOU’RE THE ONE FORCING THEM TO GO OVERSEAS WITH YOUR IDIOTIC MARXIST THINKING. The U.S. has the 2nd highest corporate tax rate on the entire planet. The U.S. is actually more communist right now and more hostile to business than COMMUNIST CHINA. All you do is demonize them and penalize them for making a profit, and then you want to blame them for leaving to get the hell away from you???
The US cars have all the problems because they HAVE TO CARRY THE DAMNED DEAD WEIGHT OF YOUR STUPID UNIONS. Foreign car manufacturers invariably locate in right to work states in non-union plants and American workers continue to make superior cars as long as they aren’t VILE MARXIST UNION workers.
And then – having nothing intelligent to say about the failed economic policies of Democrats – you can’t go past two paragraphs without demonizing Bush on the war.
For your info, Bush WON the war he got us into. Barack Obama demonized Bush on Iraq, and now he has the balls to try to take CREDIT for it!!! And while Obama was demonizing Bush on the war that he WON, Obama demanded we get massively involved in Afghanistan – a war that we CANNOT win. Obama demonized Bush as “air raiding villages and killing civilians” in Afghanistan, but OBAMA HAS AIR RAIDED MORE VILLAGES AND KILLED MORE CIVILIANS THAN BUSH EVER DID.
Then there’s the fact that Bush got Congressional approval for his wars, AND OBAMA IS A TYRANT DICTATOR WHO REFUSED TO BOTHER as he got us into wars in Libya and then Yemen.
Meanwhile, even liberals are pointing out that Obama is a bigger abuser of civil liberties than Bush was:
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/07/18/995742/-Civil-Liberties-under-Obama
http://theoldspeakjournal.wordpress.com/2011/06/01/deserving-neither-liberty-nor-safety-the-patriot-act-the-fbis-long-term-assault-on-civil-liberties-in-america/
So please crawl back into your hole. Decent people get tired of having to explain basic reality over and over and over again.
August 1, 2011 at 3:22 am
I am in the Upper Middle class $150K a year, and tired of paying for the rich. How about a flat 15% tax on everyone making over 50 k no exceptions?
I would prefer to pay the rich through increased prices anyday than allowing them a free ride on the back of the middle class.
Your argument looses all merit when you suggest that the smallest businesses owners might get hurt- but are you really suggesting that this should keep us from taxing the richest of the rich? How would you refute encouraging those most able to pay more taxes?
Nobody is saying anyone is evil-
I just want to see FAIR
August 1, 2011 at 3:23 am
The R was cut off of my FAIR-
Please fix.
August 1, 2011 at 2:31 pm
Amy,
I went ahead and fixed your missing ‘R’, but it doesn’t change either your poor syntax (e.g. it should be, “your argument LOSES all merit) or your poor reasoning.
I DON’T suggest that the smallest business owners might get hurt by Obama’s taxation policy. What I DO point out is illustrated by the following Wall Street Journal quote:
According to a Gallup survey conducted for the National Federation of Independent Business last December and January, only 10% of all businesses that hire between one and nine employees would pay the Obama tax. But 19.5% of employers with 10 to 19 employees would be socked by the tax. And 50% of businesses with 20 to 249 workers would pay the tax. The Obama plan is an incentive to hire fewer workers.
Small businesses are technically defined as those businesses having fewer than 500 employees. How many businesses having even over 100 employees wouldn’t be affected by this tax???
Now, please stop and think about this. Small business owners get paid LAST after they pay out the salaries and expenses of their business. And if there isn’t any profit left for them, THEY ARE GOING TO CLOSE. And you just destroyed up to 500 jobs just to punish that one small business owner.
When I was a child, I had a “small business.” I was a newspaper delivery boy. I was an independent contractor. How many employees did I hire? ZERO. It’s not the tiny little “small businesses” that are going to fall under this tax, to be sure. But most of the ones that ACTUALLY HIRE PEOPLE would be.
Both Obama and you need to understand that.
The small businesses that ACTUALLY DO THE VAST MAJORITY OF THE HIRING WOULD BE AFFECTED. AND WOULD THEREFORE CUT BACK ON THEIR HIRING.
That said, even LARGE businesses shouldn’t have their taxes increased. Because do you know who own large companies? Mostly ordinary people like you or I who are invested in 401ks or who have pensions. All such funds invest in stocks of large businesses. And to tax that business is to tax the value of your stock. Which is to tax ordinary and even poor workers.
And “pay their fair share?” Sure, Ms. Karl Marx.
Here’s a site that shows how “little” the rich pay in relation to you. http://ntu.org/tax-basics/who-pays-income-taxes.html
The top wealthiest 1% of Americans pay 38% of the taxes. That’s unfair, I know; but it sure aint unfair the way YOU say. They shouldn’t be paying that much!!!
The top wealthiest 5% of Americans pay 58% of the taxes! And the top 10% pay 70% of the taxes. And you think YOU’RE getting screwed????
You need to get your head out of the orifice you’ve got it stuck in, Ann.
September 9, 2011 at 1:01 pm
Not all rich people run and own the business we all work for. In fact most rich people don’t employ anyone or sell goods to the middle and lower class. And that’s fine if the ones that do raise thieir prices, I don’t have to buy it from them and am completely free to go buy it from someone who didn’t raise their prices. I hate when morons like you state those opinions like they are facts. Go look up some real stats, the last time the upper and lower classes where this far apart was the great depression.
September 9, 2011 at 4:06 pm
Show me how many businesses are run by poor people. Show me how many poor people are out there hiring employees. Hey, I tell you what, I’ll do an experiment. Everytime I come out of the grocery store and someone is outside asking for money, I’ll ask that person to give me a job. I’ll bet you they aren’t accepting applications right now.
“Rich” has been defined by the left as anyone who grosses more than $250,000 a year. Show me a small business (a small business being defined as one having fewer than 500 employees) that is hiring in the numbers we need to get our economy going. In fact, show me a substantial small business that is run by someone who earns LESS THAN the figure that defines them as “rich” above – especially given that most small business owners file using individual tax return forms.
Most small businesses don’t hire ANYBODY. When I had a paper route as a 15 year-old kid, I was an independent contractor. I was, in fact, a small business. And my only “employee” was my dad on rainy days. Most of the small businesses that you are referring to are mom/pop/family operations that do not hire because they are TOO SMALL to hire.
The small businesses that are substantial enough to HIRE are operated by “the rich.”
I just hate morons like you, period. Particularly given that fact that YOU ARE DOING THE VERY THING YOU CLAIM TO HATE SO MUCH; STATING YOUR OPINION AS FACT.
For the record, the last time the upper and lower classes were this far apart was NOT during the Great Depression, but during the roaring 1920’s which was actually a period of great prosperity for EVERYONE including the poor. The 1920s was an incredible period of innovation and cost reduction. It was during the 1920s that cars came down in price low enough for the working man to be able to afford one; refrigeration and many other amazing products became widely available. It was a period of prosperity.
There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with there being a big gap between the wealthiest and the poorest; what is FAR MORE IMPORTANT is how much the poorest have relative to the astonishingly awful poverty we see in most of the rest of the world. People like you look at the American society where the poor have fared better than ANYWHERE else on the planet and demand that we replace our system with a failed economic system that will REALLY show the poor what “poverty” really looks like. In the end, you are hateful. Maybe you’ve fooled yourself into believing you’ve got good intentions, but the road to hell is paved with intentions exactly like yours.
Allow me to describe the difference between you and an American (because I don’t give a crap what country you live in; you are un-American) in the form of a joke:
You’re a European socialist, Anonymous, whether you live in Europe or not. You don’t want the American dream; you don’t want to be wealthier and pass that wealth on to your children; no, you want to punish the rich for being successful. You want to redistribute the fruits of their labor particularly to slackers who will NEVER have to go out there and work hard looking for a job and then work hard as long as there are “morons” like YOU around.
Now begone, dumbass. People who introduce themselves for the very first time by personally singling me out to call me names aren’t worth my talking to.
November 11, 2012 at 6:54 pm
Michael, don’t you realize how many people out there bust their butts for $30,000 a year or less? Do you WANT to see an epidemic of homelessness in America? Do you really? Because I guarantee if you were to get your way, all the people you hate so much for being ‘lazy’ even though they have the same 9-5 that you do, will be homeless and the first thing they will do is come for you, your family, and your money. If you don’t like it, try joining the rest of us in the real world where we know the value of things, where we have to budget and make sacrifices just to make sure we still have a roof over our heads and food on the table. You rich people know nothing about that. All you know is that you worked your way up as if you’re more special, more intelligent than anybody who’s poorer than you. What a sick and twisted outlook on life.
You act like a 38% tax on someone who makes $300,000 hurts them more than a 2% tax on someone who makes $30,000. Let’s do the math. 38% of $300,000 is $114,000 leaving him with $186,000. Quite a large salary. A bit sickening for me to even imagine someone grossing that much yearly. 2% of $30,000 is $600 leaving him with $29,400. Who’s really being screwed? And I was being generous with the $300,000 salary. Many of the 1% make 10 to 100 times that much. A billionaire has a minimum of 21,000 years worth of a $47,000 yearly salary. That’s okay to you I bet. You probably see no problem with someone who makes more money than 21,000 Americans. You are why this country is about to fall on its face. Not the poor. Poop rolls downhill, not uphill. It’s not the fault of the poor. The rich can’t see that they still wind up making more money in one year than a poor person will make in his lifetime.
“Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.” – John Steinbeck
You and all the rich people like yourself have manipulated the poor into believing there is something wrong with themselves, that they should feel ashamed for not being rich. You are shifty devils who tear off the wings of angels and wear them as your own. I hope you enjoy your demise. You can’t take your money with you into the afterlife.
November 12, 2012 at 7:45 am
Canna Bliss,
You ARE aware that John Steinbeck has been DEAD for 45 years??? I mean, not that Steinbeck’s statement would have been necessarily true whenever he said it,but, dude, a lot of things have changed in America in 45 years. And our regard for socialism is very definitely at the top of the list of things that have changed.
Let me present another figure who was already warning that we dare not go the path that you say we must go on seven years BEFORE John Steinbeck pooh-poohed the possiblility that America could ever even theoretically entertain socialism: it was Ronald Reagan back in 1961. You can read and see what that great man said here.
You say raising income taxes another few percent doesn’t mean anything. What your attempt at an example refuses to acknowledge is that in my own state of California and in other liberal states like New York, a “rich” person ends up paying over half of his or her income in all the various other state and local taxes the rich have to pay. The top ten percent of wealthy Americans pay seventy freaking percent of the overall federal income tax burden. While losers like you don’t pay a damn DIME and bitch at the rich people who are paying more than half of their income in taxes.
And what do the rich do EVERY SINGLE time to protect themselves from this attack? They run to their tax lawyers and shelter their money. And investment and job creation dries up. And the result is actually LOWER government revenue and therefore lower ability to help poor self-destroying wastoids such as yourself.
Let me also now comment on your “debating” style as being pathologically pathetic. In your implication that somehow “conservate thought” is identical to “evil people who desire homelessness for every single American,” you say:
Really, there, Mr. Pothead Canna Bliss??? REALLY?!?!? You can guarantee me, can you? I’ll take you up on that. What kind of guarantee do I get from you that if you’re right, absolultely everything I have come to learn or believe about economics is wrong and you are “right” because, after all, you can “guarantee me”??? Do you have the power of the ghost of Christmas future a la A Christmas Carol? Is that your claim? You can personally transport me to a world in which I got my way and look what happened? Such that by morning I’ll be curled up in a fetal position and wimpering until I wake up a la Scrooge??? Because either you can do that, or you are so personally filled with bovine excrement right out of your ears that it is ludicrous with your “I can guarantee you” crap.
You are a poster boy for why I despise arguing with liberals. You don’t bother with facts; facts be damned. Rather, you traffic in frankly the most idiotic and asanine assertions I have ever damn heard. Like that you can “guarantee me” of something that didn’t happen because you can transport me to a realm where what didn’t happen actually happened and therefore you can see all the consequences that didn’t didn’t happen of what would have happened had we done something we didn’t actually do. Because you smoke a damn bong all day and become “Lord of Counterfactual Conditions.”
And I have to pull hair out of my head because I am reading the words of a blathering and blabbering pot-addicted moron.
You need other people to pay for your life so you can continue to be in your eternal state of “Canna Bliss” from your cannabis. I got that. You are a user and a parasite who can’t keep being useless unless you are sucking the life out of somebody’s hard work that you won’t do. I got that. I’m not going to accept a lecture about right and wrong from somebody who calls himself “Canna Bliss.” Because let me tell you what is right: what is right is for you to throw your damn stoner weed away, get off your lazy ass for once in your life, and get yourself a damn JOB. ANY job. A minimum wage job, even. And then you can use the experience from that job to qualify for your next job, and with hard work, with a lot of dedication, and by no longer walking around calling yourself “Canna Bliss,” you could actually be somebody who might one day pay federal income taxes so you will know what it’s like.
On the positive side of my argument, it has been factually, historically demonstrated over and over and over again that lowering tax rates actually INCREASES federal income tax revenues. Calvin Coolidge did it with the aid of the most brilliant economic mind of his day – Andrew Mellon. John F. Kennedy actually did it. Ronald Reagan did it. And yes, George W. Bush did it.
In 1962,before Kennedy lowered taxes, do you know what the top marginal federal income tax rate was? Not that I expect a guy who proudly admits to the bliss he receives whenever he smokes stuff that turns him into a deluded idiot would know, so I’ll tell you: it was 92%. I replied to a comment to a probably-pot-smoking-loser like you once who argued that things were fine with that rate.
One of the articles I provided for your turd relative was this one from 2010: tax revenues dropping the most since 1963. Because, yeah, those sky-high tax rates and your marijuana-deluded “make the rich pay for everything!” mindset sure was working great back then.
You see, it was BECAUSE we werent collecting NEARLY enough revenues that John F. Kennedy said things like:
Again, my apologies for expecting a pot-smoking parasite to know that history or those facts. But you see, under the presidency of the last decent Democrat to ever live (proving again, a LOT has changed since your John Steinbeck quote, dumbass), John F. Kennedy repeatedly argued that the United States was in a crisis because we could not compete with the Soviet Union and the only way we COULD compete was to stop trying to out-socialist the socialists and actually try to be the free market nation that was supposed to distinguish us from the socialists instead.
Here’s another one I don’t figure you’ll know: when did the United States collect the highest federal income tax revenues of all time?
It was under the presidency of George W. Bush in 2007 as a direct result of his tax cuts, that’s when. It utterly blows away your entire thesis like – well, a big exhaled puff of pot smoke from your shriveled lungs on a windy day – but the tax cuts of George W. Bush resulted in more revenues than either your hero Bill Clinton or your messiah Barack Obama EVER produced.
And lastly, as a response to your final paragraph –
– I’m not rich. I’m just a hell of a lot smarter than you’ve ever been and very probably ever WILL be, Mr. “Canna Bliss.” The fact is, I am NOT rich. It is a lie for you to say that I am rich when you clearly don’t even know which end is freaking UP let alone details about my personal life and net worth. And furthermore your conclusion is really just a logical extension of your entire argument: because it depends on demonization and lies to make any point whatsoever.
Now get lost. I have already spent more time arguing with a pothead than I should ever have to in my life. Particularly after that pothead concludes a bunch of assertions with one that is both demagogic and untrue about me personally.

I can’t listen to these comments about the “poor” top ten percent paying so much in taxes without pointing out a fact, a readily available fact anyone can look up after reading this if you don’t believe me. They own 90 percent of the wealth in this country! So that actually means that the 70 percent of taxes they pay is LESS than their fair share. Try again.

Anonymous,
First of all, what you quote as a “fact” ISN’T.
You say that the top ten percent own ninety percent of the country. That isn’t true. Here’s that fact (I hate having to provide liberals’ facts for them, but liberals being so immune to reality, what else can I do?):
The top 20% of Americans owned 85% of the country’s wealth
So it’s NOT the top ten percent, it’s the top 20 percent. And even as the top twenty percent, they DON’T own ninety percent of the country’s wealth. But who gives a damn about “facts”??? Not you.
But here’s the thing that MOST proves how wrong you are: WHAT HAS OABAMA DONE ABOUT IT??? WHAT DID THE DEMOCRAT-CONTROLLED HOUSE, THE DEMOCRAT-CONTROLLED SENATE, AND OBAMA DO ABOUT IT WHEN THEY RAN EVERYTHING AND COULD HAVE PASSED ANYTHING THEY WANTED TO????
Oh, that’s right: they did NOTHING.
You know why that is, anonymous? Because Warren Buffett – the tax-cheating liberal who says that everybody ELSE ought to pay the taxes that HE won’t pay – is a liberal. And this hypocrite who says everybody ought to pay taxes unlike HIMSELF hasn’t paid taxes in more than ten years through his businesses.
Liberalism is the philosophy that “What I impose on thee does not work for me – so I’m exempting myself.”
Here’s another interesting factoid for you:
But… but… but China is communist. And communists care about “the people” …. and blah blah blah liberal bullcrap.
Hey, those government-worshiping communists are doing pretty dang okay leaching off the misery of their people – who thanks to the failure of liberalism have nowhere NEAR the wealth that Americans had until Obama came along – aint they????
Wealth inequality is hardly unique to America. The louder socialists talk about redistribution of wealth, the more likely they are to redistribute that wealth to THEMSELVES. That’s something called a “fact.” And Democrats have participated in that inequality every single scintilla as much as the Republicans you slanderously demonize. Think of John Kerry: his speech on Syria is in the news, but we ought to be talking about what a tax-cheating hypocrite he is.
So please go away with your nonsense.
