How To Remove The Gas Tank, Change The Air Filter And Change The Spark Plugs On A Yamaha Roadliner/Stratoliner

August 25, 2012

As I understand it, a dealership charges something very close to $500 to do an oil change, air filter change and spark plug change for a Roadliner/Stratoliner.  And I have no doubt that a lot of people who don’t consider themselves particularly mechanically inclined are simply stunned by the cost of maintenance that is supposed to be done twice a year.  And I also have no doubt that it isn’t the fear of doing the work that scares people about this job; it’s the fear of the unknown and the fear that you’ll start taking stuff off and get stuck somewhere and end up with a bike you can’t even ride to the stealership.  The purpose of this tutorial is to show Roadliner and Stratoliner owners what this critical maintenance job entails and hopefully encourage you to give it a go.

You do not need to drain the gas tank to do this job, whether you decide to completely remove the tank (because there are two fuel shut-off valves) or whether you decide to just swing the tank over to the left side (because you then leave the fuel lines hooked up).  I had less than a gallon of gas in the tank and was easily able to move the tank.  It was actually a lot less awkward than I had guessed when I actually picked the tank up.

There is a procedure for the complete Roadliner/Stratoliner gas tank removal (i.e., disconnecting the fuel lines) available on Youtube.  See parts 1 and 2 at the links below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXs_WpZv7HM

The part number for the Yamaha air filter (“element, air cleaner”) is: 1D7-14461-00-00.  The final two zeroes are frequently omitted.  You will also need four spark plugs.  The stock plug is an NGK (5129) DPR7EA-9.  Amazon sells them for $2.60 each and they’re eligible for super saver shipping.

Here are all the tools I used to do this job:

You’ll need assorted pliers for removing various hose clamps and electrical connections (you don’t need the exact pliers I’ve got, just something reasonably similar); a socket wrench with a 10mm and 12mm socket, and extender bar, and a universal/wobble joint will be helpful; Allen wrenches or bits in 4mm and 5mm; a 17mm wrench (and I found my ratcheting 17mm wrench VERY helpful); a phillips and regular screwdriver; a spark plug gauge; a magnetic pick-up tool is helpful.  Hopefully you have the spark plug tool that came with the bike – if not you’ll need an 18mm deep socket.  I don’t have the little length of 3/8″ rubber hose shown (I’ve got a picture of it below), but that may have been the most useful tool of all.

Here’s the procedure to remove the tank, replace the air filter, and replace the spark plugs:

1) Remove the seat using the ignition key.

2) When you have the seat removed, you will see two 10mm nuts on the rear of the tank and under the seat that secure the tank to the frame.  Remove them.  I put my screws and bolts in small plastic cups, and will often have several cups for each series of nuts, bolts etc. so I don’t get them confused with other stuff as I keep taking more stuff off.

3) Remove the three chrome 5mm allen head bolts that secure the chrome gauge assembly that sits on top of the gas tank to the tank.  Turn your handlebars as needed to give yourself room for the two bolts on the front.

4) Now place one or more towels under the chrome gauge assembly between the chrome and the gas tank and slide the towels all the way to the top to protect your paint from accidental scratching or denting.  Place another towel on the handlebar neck for further protection (I tied it with string to keep it out of my way).

5) Now gently pull the chrome gauge assembly down a few inches to expose the four electrical connectors and disconnect all four of them (from left to right, you will see a small white, large black, large white, and small black wire connectors).  I inserted a small-bladed regular screwdriver into the tab and then used that screwdriver to somewhat help pry them off.

For the record, you do NOT have to remove the smaller white connector on the far left side YET.  It does not connect to the gauge assembly.  That said, it DOES connect to the underside of the gas tank.  So it WILL have to come off before you pull/move the tank.  But the second time I did this job, I actually found it easier to remove all the gauge assembly, remove the bolts securing the tank, pull the small white connector out of the gas tank frame it mounts to, and then have a little more wiggle room to pull the connector end off so I could pull the tank.  Just don’t forget and try to rip the tank off the bike if you do that.

Btw, when you disconnect these leads, both of your trip meters will be set to zero and your clock will be disconnected.  If you need to note mileages, do so before you disconnect the leads.

6) Now you can remove the chrome gauge assembly and put it in a safe place.  Hopefully it won’t be a place that makes your wife yell at you for bringing your motorcycle parts into the house.

7) At this time you need to pull the other half of the connectors you just disconnected off the frame.  Use needlenose pliers to gently squeeze the tip together and pull off each of the four connectors.  You have to disconnect all four connectors from the frame in order to lift the gas tank:

8) Pull off the small hose that fastens to the gas tank near the connectors.

I tied all five of these things together with a rubber band to make sure nothing slipped down and that they would be out of the way when I re-installed the tank.

9) Remove the two 12mm bolts beneath the connectors that secures the front of the tank to the frame.  You may need to use a universal/wobble joint with your extender bar, but it seemed like a standard extender did the job as long as you are careful.

10) Remove the small plastic chrome gas tank trim located on either side tank.  There are two 4mm allen screws on each side holding them on.

11) You are now able to move your gas tank off to the side at this time.  You could go to some additional fairly great lengths and disconnect the fuel lines, OR you could simply get a couple of stools and lift the tank to the left side as I will show in a picture.  But…

If you are going to replace or check your spark plugs, I advise you  first replace the left rear plug at this time before you move your tank  (you can do it later, but what you will find is that you can’t access that plug if you’ve got the tank swung over to the side with the fuel hoses still connected).  I used the plug tool that is included in the tool kit and put a 17mm wrench on it.  And I was able to easily lift and manuever the tank enough to take off the old plug and put in the new one.  When I put on the new plug, I applied anti-seize compound and used about a 3″ length of rubber fuel hose (that I stuck onto the non-threaded end of the plug) to easily screw in the new plug.  The gap is .8 – .9mm (.031 – .035in).  You need an 18mm deep socket if you don’t use the Yamaha tool.  I’ve found that quite often the new plugs are pre-gapped, but check each one to make sure.

By the time you are finished replacing all four of your spark plugs, you will never look at a short piece of rubber hose the same way again.

12) Now lift the tank off the bike and swing it to the left side of the bike.  You want one or two short stools that are about the height of the tank to do this.  I used two 24″ high stools and they worked fine.  Your other option is to shut off the two fuel supply screws (by turning them IN or clockwise) and then disconnect the fuel lines so you can put the tank wherever you like (I KNOW you’ll get yelled at if you try to drag this into the house, though!).  You would then need to re-route the fuel lines when you’re done.  Good luck, but I didn’t go that route.

13) If you are only replacing the air filter, your life is now easy.  There are a total of seven phillips screws holding the air filter box cover in place.  unscrew them and there is you air filter. [Note: I accidentally stumbled across the Yamaha manual procedure for removing the air filter case detailed on page 4-13 and 4-14.  After I’d removed it, of course].

If you are replacing or checking your spark plugs, you’ve got a fair amount of work still ahead of you.

You will see a bracket near the handlebar neck that is held in place by three or four allen head bolts.  That’s the red arrow labeled “1”.   Has to come off.  You’ll see two electrical connections (labeled “2” and “3” in the picture above; you have to disconnect them.  There are also two small hoses underneath the electrical connectors that have to be disconnected.  Then there are seven or eight phillips screws, including an annoying one at the very front bottom of the air filter case near the handlebar neck.  Just when you think the damn air filter case is finally off, you’ll be crushed to see that you’ve only taken off the top half of the damn thing.

There are a total of six hoses that must be disconnected (including the two mentioned in the paragraph above).   Four hoses are attached to the lower part of the air case (two larger hoses at either end and two small hoses located on the left side of the bike).  Oh, and seven or eight more phillips screws holding it to the bike.  Disconnect all four hoses and remove all the screws.  Finally you can remove the air filter case.  If you are like me, you will wonder at this point if you will be able to ever put the damn thing together the way the crazy fool who put this thing together at the factory intended.  For the record, it actually all went back in fairly easily.

The four arrows in the picture above of the bottom half of the air filter case show the locations of the four hoses that have to be disconnected to remove the air filter case.

14) Now you’ve finally removed your air filter case and exposed your spark plugs, and you can even see the two rear plugs now.  If you followed my advice, you’ve already done the left rear plug.  If you haven’t done that left rear plug yet, I now advise you to wait until you do the other three plugs, re-install the air filter case, and put the tank back on but BEFORE you start bolting the tank on.  The right rear plug is accessible inside the frame and easily accessible with that short piece of rubber hose as the pictures with step 11 show.  Replace each plug using anti-seize compound and verifying the correct gap (also described on step 11 above).

15) Before I replaced the rest of the plugs, I took the time to polish the valve covers – as I was finally able to reach all the stuff that had resisted my oversized ape fingers before.  Now it’s all shiny where only God will be able to see it:

God likes His chrome shiny.  There will be no dull, oxidized chrome in heaven.

16) With the tank off the bike (at least, mostly off), none of the plugs were that bad to reach.  Use a piece of rubber fuel hose as I described and you will find that you can start threading them very easily.  I used the spark plug tool from the Yamaha tool bag for all four plugs, and used a 17mm wrench to loosen/remove them and tighten/install them.  You could also use a socket wrench with a 17mm socket, obviously.  I used one of those fancy ratcheting socket wrenches that only need 5 degrees of angle to turn and had absolutely no problems.

I did some reading online looking for a procedure for all this stuff (never DID find one, btw!) and saw people complaining about not being able to get to plugs.  But that was because they either didn’t use the rubber hose like I showed you or they tried to replace the left rear plug with the tank swung off to the left side like I warned you about.  If you do it the way I describe, you won’t have any major problems.

Let me say more about that left rear plug.  I removed the tank and looked the job over, and I had decided to tackle that left rear one first because it clearly looked to be the hardest and what I didn’t want was to replace the first three and then not be able to get the last one.  But with the tank swung to the side, I found that simply could not reach that left side rear plug.  I was sitting there gloomily thinking that I would have to disconnect the fuel lines after all – which seemed like a major pain in terms of what would have to come off to get to them, in terms of re-routing those fuel lines back to where they belonged, etc.  So I put the tank back onto the bike and started to work out the disconnect of the fuel lines.  But the last time the tank had come off the original owner had not got my fuel lines rearranged back into the “this is how it should look” position, such that the bottom fuel shut off screw was virtually impossible to access to shut off the fuel supply.  So on the one hand I figured I had to take the tank completely off to get to the left rear spark plug, only I couldn’t shut the fuel off so I couldn’t take off the tank.  I was in a Catch-22.  I thought of crying, but I prayed instead.  And then it suddenly struck me, like an angel whispering in my ear, that with the tank on the bike but on loosely it just looked like there might well be enough room to get that plug off with the tank completely loosened as it was but positioned on the bike.  And sure enough the hardest plug was suddenly as easy as pie when I used the procedure I described above (step 11).

17) At this point, it was time to put it all back together again.  I actually decided to wait until after I had the spark plugs done and had the air box case all cleaned up and installed to install the new air filter.  I figured it would end up being cleaner that way, rather than having me screwing around with the components in pieces and having it lying around exposed.

Before I re-installed the air filter case, I cleaned it up and used my compressor to blow air through the tubes.  The rest is just doing what you’ve already done in reverse order.

And we’re back to beautiful again:

Nothing about this job was particularly “hard,” I’d say after having done it.  It was just that a lot more stuff had to come off or be disconnected than my sensibilities approved of.  There were a couple of times that I was glad I had taken these pictures, as I didn’t have to remember how and where everything went.

I had to EARN that spark plug change.  I had to prove I was WORTHY to replace that air filter.  There are two things that make this bike more of a challenge than any other vehicle I’ve ever owned: one is the newness of the bike and the second is the sheer size of it.  My 1983 Suzuki 1100e was so easy to maintain compared to this bike it is positively disgusting.  Maintenance is getting harder and harder on whatever you buy these days, but motorcycles have to have all the same things that a car has to have but packed into a lot more miniature of a package.  And when you’re trying to cram a 1.9 liter high performance engine that is literally the size of a car engine into that package, too, well, you end up with some crazy maintenance stuff.  That said, it turns out that our bikes aren’t that much different from the (also really big) Honda VTX 1800.  I came across this thread where a VTX guy starts pissing on the Stratoliner thinking that he’ll have a lot of agreement from his VTX pals.  But it turns out that most of the VTX guys who responded said he was a basically ignorant ass and that the Strat is a great bike and that the maintenance is actually about the same for these two behemoths.  I’ll return the favor and say that VTX 1800s are great bikes and there are about as many reasons why you should prefer one over a Roadliner as there are reasons why you should prefer a Roadliner over a VTX.  I was pleased to see so many VTX guys come to our bike’s defense.

Obama – The Prez Who Says He’ll Screw America To Help Russia If They Wait Till He’s Reelected – Demands Europe Not Save Itself By Booting Greece Until After Election Day

August 25, 2012

I’ll just re-post the whole article for you on what Obama said to the Russians first:

You want to talk about a hard punch right in the gut of American national security.

Allow me to sum this up for you: Obama is telling the Russians, “I assure you that I’m going to cave in to you like the pandering weakling that I am. But I can’t do it yet. If I sacrifice American security before the election, the American people will rightly turn on me and I’ll be out – and you’ll have a strong leader to deal with who will confront you as an obvious opponent rather than the Neville Chamberlain-style Appeaser-in-Chief that you have in me. If you give me ‘space’ to get re-elected I promise you I’ll bow down before you the same way I’ve already bowed down so many times before. I’ll even apologize to you for America’s ‘aggression’ if you want me to. Heck, I just got through apologizing to the people who murdered American soldiers! So you KNOW I’m good for it!”

Hot mike moment: Obama overheard telling Medvedev he needs ‘space’ on missile defense
By NBC News’ Shawna Thomas

SEOUL, South Korea — It was a comment not intended for public consumption, and another lesson for President Barack Obama on the importance of being careful about what you say around microphones, especially in an election year.

At the end of a 90-minute meeting between Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Monday, journalists rushed in to hear remarks from the leaders about the content of their talks.

Journalists spied the two leaders leaning close together and talking in hushed tones. According to those in the room, the conversation was difficult to hear but the videotape revealed Obama asking the Russian leader to wait until after the November election before pushing forward on the topic of a planned missile defense shield.

“Pool” videotape provided more information about the conversation between the two leaders:

Obama: This is my last election…After my election I have more flexibility.

Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.

While most journalists didn’t catch the rest, one Russian reporter managed to record the context with his equipment.

Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.

Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…

Obama: This is my last election…After my election I have more flexibility.

Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.

The planned anti-ballistic shield system has been one of many sore spots between the two world powers in the last few years.

Obama says US can reduce nuclear stockpile

Moscow says it fears the system would weaken Russia by gaining the capability to shoot down the nuclear missiles it relies on as a deterrent. It wants a legally binding pledge from the United States that Russia’s nuclear forces would not be targeted by the system.

That’s actually NOT what Moscow wants. Yes, it is their rhetorical posture to make them sound “reasonable,” but the reality is that Russia doesn’t just want some “contract.”

Moscow wants the United States to abandon this missile defense system altogether. Moscow wants to throw a monkey wrench into the entire system that the United States says is necessary to protect America from the now very real prospect of a nutjob Iranian ballistic missile attack.

You need to understand what current American policy is. And then you need to realize that Obama is signalling the Russians that he is going to abandon his own policy and undermine American security if Russia just gets off his back so he can get re-elected. Because getting re-elected is all that Obama cares about. And he’ll violate any trust no matter how sacred if it will purchase enough votes.

To frame it in terms of the title below, if Obama was going to “stick” to the missile shield as is official US policy as of just a few months ago (December 2011), he wouldn’t have anything to be afraid of. Which is to say that Obama is already planning on appeasing Russia; he just needs “space” to betray America:

U.S. sticking to missile shield regardless of Moscow
By Jim Wolf
WASHINGTON | Fri Dec 2, 2011 2:37pm EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Obama Administration plans to complete an anti-ballistic missile shield to protect European allies against Iran ”whether Russia likes it or not,” the U.S. envoy to NATO said on Friday.

Moscow’s objections to the project, which includes participation by Romania, Poland, Turkey and Spain, “won’t be the driving force in what we do,” Ivo Daalder, the ambassador, told reporters at a breakfast session.

The U.S. estimate of the Iranian ballistic missile threat has gone up, not down, over the two years since President Barack Obama opted for a new, four-phased deployment to protect the United States and NATO allies, Daalder said.

“It’s accelerating,” Daalder said of the U.S.-perceived threat of Iran’s ballistic missiles, “and becoming more severe than even we thought two years ago.”

“We’re deploying all four phases, in order to deal with that threat, whether Russia likes it or not,” he added. At the same time, he urged Moscow to cooperate in both to deal with Iran and to see for itself that, as he put it, the system’s capabilities pose its strategic deterrent force no threat.

If the perceived threat from Iran ebbs, “then maybe the system will be adapted to that lesser threat,” Daalder said.

[…]

Daalder said the sides remain at odds over, among other things, Russia’s demand for the legally binding pledge, before any cooperation, that its nuclear forces would not be targeted by the NATO elements.

“They have gotten themselves quite hung up on our unwillingness to put this in legally binding writing,” he said.

The administration was not convinced that such a pledge would be ratified by the U.S. Senate, he said, nor should Moscow be convinced that even if it were, “we wouldn’t necessarily at some point walk away from it,” as the George W. Bush administration did from the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, the only U.S.-Russia missile defense pact.

That withdrawal opened the way for the creation of an anti-missile defense shield that the U.S. government says is designed to protect the United States from countries like Iran and North Korea.

Daalder said that if the United States ever were placing interceptors to counter Russia’s nuclear missiles, “we wouldn’t deploy them in Europe. We would deploy them in the United States.”

The physics of missile defense intercepts make it “easier and better to approach an incoming missile from the opposite side than it is to try to chase it down.” he said. “That’s the way that it works.”

Russia knows full-well that we wouldn’t build a system designed to protect America from Russian missiles in Europe. What Russia is trying to do is create difficulties that will make the missile shield politically impossible to build altogether. The Russians also very much like the idea (which is why Russia has helped Iran develop its nuclear program to begin with) of America being vulnerable to Iran which very obviously gives Russia more influence and power over US policy. At least unless we build a missile defense shield.

And ask yourself whether the threat from Iran has gone up or down given that Iran was just caught red-handed scrubbing evidence of a nuclear weapons program at its Parchin facility.

But Barack Obama is worried about the Iranian threat. Obama isn’t worried about millions of Americans being murdered. Obama is looking out for #1. Obama is worried about his re-election and he will betray America if that’s what it takes to keep his job so he can continue his “fundamental transformation” of America from a constitutional republic into a Marxist banana republic.

This has always been a nation that was determined to protect itself. Barack Obama wants to “fundamentally transform” that. He just needs “space” to do it so he can betray the American people with impunity.

You see, it really isn’t about 320 million Americans or their pitiful national security.  It’s about Obama and his election.  You suck; Obama actually is a messiah and ergo sum Obama is the only being that is worth a damn on Obama’s view.

The current news item about Iran is that they have massively expanded and progressed on its nuclear weapons program.  And they are just as feverishly working on intercontinental ballistic missiles.  But what is silliness like that compared to the re-election of the most marvellous being who ever existed or who ever will exist?

Obama supporters assure their fellow liberals, “After November, Obama can do anything he likes without bothering to care about the pitiful American people or worry about their stupid votes.”  We’re not talking about some mere “president,” people.  We’re talking about an emperor – a Führer!  Who are you, you insignificant little pissant gnat, to stop such greatness?

And so this same Obama is telling Europe, “With all due respect, please remember that only I matter.  You can save your continent and preserve the hundreds of millions of peasants who live there, but just don’t do it until AFTER I’m re-elected:

Obama asks eurozone to keep Greece in until after election day
US officials are worried that if Greece exits the eurozone, it will damage President’s election hopes
Oliver Wright  Friday 24 August 2012

The Obama administration will pressure European governments not to let Greece fall out of the eurozone before November’s Presidential elections, British Government sources have suggested.

Representatives from the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank and the European Commission are due to arrive in Athens next month to assess Greece’s reform efforts.

They are expected to report in time for an 8 October meeting of eurozone finance ministers which will decide on whether to disburse Greece’s next €31bn aid tranche, promised under the terms of the bailout for the country.

American officials are understood to be worried that if they decide Greece has not done enough to meet its deficit targets and withhold the money, it would automatically trigger Greece’s exit from the eurozone weeks before the Presidential election on 6 November.

They are urging eurozone Governments to hold off from taking any drastic action before then – fearing that the resulting market destabilisation could damage President Obama’s re-election prospects. European leaders are thought to be sympathetic to the lobbying fearing that, under pressure from his party lin Congress, Mitt Romney would be a more isolationist president than Mr Obama.

The President discussed the eurozone crisis with David Cameron during a conference call on Wednesday and both welcomed statements by the European Central Bank that it was “standing firmly behind the euro”.

The ECB is expected to present a plan in the next few weeks to help indebted countries like Spain and Italy by buying their government bonds.

Today, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras will travel to Berlin to meet Chancellor Angela Merkel, and to France tomorrow for talks with President François Hollande. He is asking that Greece be given more time to meet its deficit targets and implement its reforms as its economy is struggling through a fifth year of recession.

But Germany’s Finance Minister, Wolfgang Schäuble, said it was only months since creditors drew up a second bailout package and agreed on a massive debt write-down for Greece.

Britain is understood to have pressed the Germans to ensure that if eurozone leaders decide Greece’s position is unsustainable the financial “firewall” around Spain and Italy is made stronger. Officials are worried that if Greece was to exit the eurozone, the move could result in dramatic increases in the cost of debt for other weaker eurozone members – making their financial situation unsustainable.

Allow me to translate that part that says, “European leaders are thought to be sympathetic to the lobbying fearing that, under pressure from his party lin Congress, Mitt Romney would be a more isolationist president than Mr Obama.”  It’s pretty much the same thing as saying that Obama has assured Europe that he’ll promise to screw the American people to give Europe whatever bailout it wants as long as Europe doesn’t interfere with his re-election.  It’s pretty much the same promise Obama gave to Russia to screw American national security if Russia didn’t do anything to interfere with his re-election.

Greece, of course, has long-since proven that it is a giant black hole of bailouts.  Greece is a country that will promise anything to get the next bailout, then completely renege on its promises, then come begging for another bailout.  And given that it’s already worked so many times for them before, they’re going to keep doing it until Europe is a dry husk.  Greece is one of those cancers that has to be surgically removed or else the patient dies.

Not that Obama cares.  Obama is worried about the most important thing that ever existed or ever will exist: Obama.

I frankly don’t know whether Obama didn’t get his ass kicked nearly enough when he was a kid, or whether he got his ass kicked way too many times.  It was clearly one or the other, given the malignant narcissist he’s become.

Greece’s economy, Europe’s economy, hell our own economy, are all teetering and will very likely go over the brink.  But what matters any of that if Obama is re-elected?  His sheer wonderfulness is really all that ought to matter to anyone with the proper perspective.  All of the rest of us are but dust before him, and we ought to remember that.

A Great Suggestion On The Speech Mitt Romney Should Give About His Time At Bain Capital

August 24, 2012

Mark Twain famously said that a lie can get halfway around the world before the truth can get its boots on.  Apart from fallen’s man’s historically demonstrated preference for exchanging truth for lies and choosing to believe lies simply because the truth often necessitates personal responsibility, there’s a fundamental reason why it is true that lies race around while the truth struggles to speak.

Take the lies about Mitt Romney: “You’re a vampire!”

It took three words to say something that is blatantly false.  How many words is it going to take for Romney to prove he isn’t a vampire???

The Democrat Party is a group of people who have a terrible agenda and who understand the power of lies.  And the “genius” of the Obama campaign is the realization that Obama can throw so much dirt at his opponents that they must spend their entire campaigns trying to correct the lies his campaign threw at them while Obama depicts himself as “hope and change.”  Obama became an Illinois State Senator by using lawyers who exploited arcane rules to suppress the votes of his opponent; he became a US Senator by unsealing and publicizing the private divorce records of his Republican challenger.  He became the Democrat candidate for president in 2008 by “playing the race card” on Bill Clinton himself and by so demonizing Hillary Clinton that she said, “So shame on you, Barack Obama.”

And now we’ve got an Obama campaign that has tried to exploit the division created by gender, by race, by religion, by sexual orientation, by income, and frankly by whatever he could think of to cynically divide and capture so that he can tear America into pieces but end up with 50 percent plus 1 of those pieces.

The Obama Team has said that Mitt Romney is a dog torturer (in spite of the fact that Obama actually ATE a dog).  The Obama Team has said that Mitt Romney is an outsourcer (when Obama is the outsourcer in chief).  The Obama Team has literally stated as a fact that Mitt Romney is a felon and a tax dodger when there is absolutely zero evidence of that and in a frankly fascist and Orwellian manner stated that the burden of proof is on the person who is demonized to prove himself innocent.  The Obama Team has  called Mitt Romney a “vampire” for his leadership of Bain Capital when Bain  successfullygrew 8 out of 10 companies it touched, when none of the examples – such as the bankruptcy of GST Steel – even occurred during Romney’s tenure at Bain, and when even many top DEMOCRATS have said that Obama’s attack against Bain and private equity are flat-out wrong if not flat-out un-American.  The truth is that GST Steel was struggling mightily the day Bain acquired it, and if anything Bain kept a company going for years that would have otherwise went belly up.  The truth is that Mitt Romney had been out of Bain Capital for two full years before the eventual collapse of GST Steel.  The truth is that the man who actually was running Bain when GST went bankrupt was actually the man who is now Barack Obama’s top bundler.  But truth be damned: so the Obama Team said that Mitt Romney was essentially a murderer exploiting the death of a union thug who once worked at GST in spite of the fact that it is a wildly false and frankly evil lie.  The Obama Team says that Mitt Romney wants to reinstitute black slavery.

The secret to Barack Obama’s political success is that he is a man who has proven that he is willing to get so dirty and throw so much hate at his opponents that they can’t get their own message out.  And he knows that even if he’s running against Hillary Clinton, the mainstream media will help him; so what do you think that same media will do if he’s running against Republicans????

As hard as it is to do, as difficult as it is to correct the record of Obama’s ocean of lies and deceit, Mitt Romney has to do just that very thing.

This is a good place to start:

Deroy Murdock: Here’s the speech Romney should give about Bain
Sunday, August 12, 2012 12:00 AM
by Deroy Murdock

NEW YORK — Mitt Romney cannot run from his record at Bain Capital. So, he might as well give this speech. …

Ladies and Gentlemen:

You have heard plenty about my previous life as a rich businessman. Yes, I made some $250 million in free enterprise and am proud I did — just as Berry Gordy is proud that he produced millions at Motown and Steve Jobs was proud he yielded billions at Apple. Like these respected and wealthy entrepreneurs, I added value, delivered products and services that people wanted and created thousands of careers along the way.

At Bain Capital, my team and I took small and sometimes struggling companies, injected cash and — eight times out of 10 — made them blossom. Among our triumphs:

• Bain seeded Staples with $650,000. Its 1,500 stores now employ 88,000 people who generated $25 billion in revenues last year.

• Bain helped Sports Authority boom from 10 stores to almost 700 outlets and 15,000 employees.

• Brookstone reportedly was in “dire straits” before Bain’s 1991 investment. It then opened 104 new shops, hired 741 people, and tripled net sales from $95 million to $270 million by 1999.

Atop private money, we added our management expertise to help our portfolio companies refine, manufacture and sell their market offerings. When we succeeded, we enjoyed the fruits of our labors. When we failed, we internalized our losses.

Contrast our venture capitalism with President Barack Obama’s “venture socialism,” as Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., calls it. Obama has “invested” $34.7 billion in grants, loans and loan guarantees for “green” companies. The Energy Department boasts that this money has created 60,000 jobs. That equals $578,333 per position. This is nine times the private-sector cost.

Even worse, at least 10 of these companies took your tax dollars and then went broke. Beyond Solyndra and the $528 million it flushed down a solar toilet, consider these Obama-led bankruptcies:

• Raser Technologies got a $33 million stimulus grant. Its geothermal ambitions turned to steam, and it went bankrupt in April 2011.

• Ener1 received a $118.5 million government grant to make electric-car batteries. It lost power last Jan. 26.

• Aptera scored a $150 million federal loan to make three-wheeled electric cars. It drove into a ditch last Dec. 2.

Your taxes sponsored at least six similar Obama-backed bankruptcies.

Using my Bain skills, I hope to turn around another distressed enterprise: the American economy.

The growing and uplifting economy that most of us remember can rise again. The key is to starve and sedate the federal government that expanded for decades, became fat under President George W. Bush and then, under Obama, grew morbidly obese and openly hostile to job creators.

How, specifically, can we reverse this damage? For starters:

• An optional, 15 percent flat income tax would put today’s flaccid 1.5 percent growth on steroids. So would cutting America’s uncompetitive 35 percent corporate tax rate to 15 percent. Capping dividend and capital gains taxes at 15 percent also would electrify business investment and expansion.

• A moratorium on new regulations and a critical review of Dodd-Frank, Sarbanes-Oxley and other impenetrable laws would loosen and remove the red tape strangling American companies. Repealing and replacing Obamacare would be a powerful remedy.

• Freeze federal spending for one year, and then cut it 1 percent every year thereafter. Obama’s 49.7 percent increase in U.S. national debt (from $10.63 trillion at his inaugural to $15.91 trillion today) bought America nothing. Enough!

I have a secret weapon to make this plan succeed: the American people.

We can inspire the world again with our products, inventions and ideas. First, we must pry Uncle Sam’s unaffordable, dream-crushing boots from the necks of enterprising men and women. I have maximum confidence that when Washington once again is the home of our servants and not the mansion of our masters, this republic’s emancipated citizens will reconstitute the economy, the society and the nation that we love, remember and miss so much.

My dream president is what Ronald Reagan was: Reagan was a man who had had great person success in the private sector; who had actually led by governing a state; who was an older man with more life experience; and who was a man who had a conservative vision to return America to prosperity and strength and had a plan to carry that vision out.

While I have never been thrilled as a conservative about Mitt Romney – whose life has primarily been clearly that of a moderate – it is simply a fact that Mitt Romney easily qualifies for the first three of those four criteria.  Only a Romney presidency and history can judge whether he meets the fourth and most important criteria – but what is for certain is that Barack Obama has UTTERLY FAILED to return America to prosperity and strength throughout his entire presidency.

Because Obama Radically Failing, Desperate Fed Will Soon Be Radically Bailing While Mainstream Media Is Wildly Flailing

August 24, 2012

The economy is going to hell under Obama far faster than anybody short of Cloward and Piven ever dared think.

If at first QEI doesn’t succeed and then QE2 doesn’t succeed to make up for the worst and most wicked president in American history, why try, try, try again.

Bernanke and the rest of the Federal Reserve Board keep trying to magically create enough money to keep up with Obama’s deranged socialist spending and no matter how determined they are to get the job done it just won’t go their way.  I have a feeling the Federal Reserve, in trying to deal with Obama, can relate to this scene of Cameron Diaz trying to deal with her bong:

They keep trying to add zeros to the Federal Reserve computers but they can’t seem to add the damn numbers fast enough to keep up with their psychotic president.  And they keep saying, “SERIOUSLY?!?!”

Federal Reserve leaning toward more stimulus
By Paul Handley | AFP – Wed, 22 Aug, 2012

Policy makers at the US Federal Reserve are leaning toward more stimulus action “fairly soon” unless economic data turns around, minutes from their meeting three weeks ago showed Wednesday.

The minutes revealed most members of the Federal Open Market Committee were concerned about slowing growth and the vulnerability of the economy to external threats, particularly economic instability in Europe.

“Many members judged that additional monetary accommodation would likely be warranted fairly soon unless incoming information pointed to a substantial and sustainable strengthening in the pace of the economic recovery,” the record of the July 31-August 1 FOMC meeting said.

“A number of members noted that if the recent modest rate of economic growth were to persist, the economy would be less able to weather a material adverse shock without slipping back into recession,” it added.

Fed members discussed the merits of different approaches to sparking more drive in the economy, from signalling that they would keep their benchmark interest rate at the current all-time low longer than currently understood, to undertaking more bond purchases aimed at pulling long-term interest rates down further.

Some said that a new Fed program to purchase Treasury and other bonds, pressing down their yields, “might boost business and consumer confidence”, while demonstrating that the committee remains focused on lowering unemployment while keeping inflation under control.

In the end, the FOMC put off any new action, but the minutes show the policy makers closer to moving on a new stimulus plan at their next meeting on September 12-13.

Yes, it’s pretty crazy to keep trying quantitative easing over and over and over again – the definition of insanity being what it is and all – but you’ve got to see things from the Fed’s perspective: all Obama can do is fail, and fail, and then fail some more while blaming absolutely everything but his failed leadership and his failed policies for said failure.  So no matter how totally nuts QE3 is at this point, that’s pretty much all we got until we get ourselves a new president who isn’t a Marxist.

But, you know, if it makes you feel any better, Obama is spending all that money to keep losing more jobs for America:

U.S. Weekly Jobless Claims Unexpectedly Rise To 372,000
8/23/2012 8:37 AM ET

(RTTNews) – First-time claims for U.S. unemployment benefits unexpectedly showed a modest increase in the week ended August 18th, according to a report released by the Labor Department on Thursday.

The report showed that initial jobless claims edged up to 372,000 from the previous week’s revised figure of 368,000. The modest increase came as a surprise to economists, who had expected jobless claims to slip to 365,000 from the 366,000 originally reported for the previous week.

Additionally, the Labor Department said the less volatile four-week moving average crept up to 368,000 from the previous week’s revised average of 364,250.

Unexpected!  Drink, ye few dying-of-cirrhosis-of-the-liver-zombies who are still left alive in this the fourth year of the mainstream media trying to cover for Obama almost as desperately as the Federal Reserve is.

One of the factoids that Obama doesn’t want you to think about is the fact that, given our population growth, ten million Americans have actually entered the work force during Obama’s presidency.  And Obama is so far behind in creating jobs for them that it is beyond unreal.  Which is why our labor participation rate is getting to the point that you just want to crawl into your own toilet and flush yourself before Obama does it for you.

Compare Obama’s abject failure and his abjectly failing “solutions” to Ronald Reagan.  And then vote like you AREN’T stupid.

Just to make sure you understand what’s going on, liberals will do whatever they’ve got to do to somehow gin up the markets before the election. Democrats will do whatever it takes to create the illusion that the country isn’t going to hell prior to election day. They’ll bankrupt the country and make our children and their children ad infinitum debt slaves to the Chinese if that’s what it takes.

For the record, I predicted that we’d be at this very point nearly a year and a half ago:

In the market itself, two things are happening: one is that banks are able to borrow money at nearly a zero percent interest rate and then reinvest it in bonds for a safe and easy profit without those risky and pesky loans to small businesses. The other thing is that there are virtually zero bankruptcies of major business and financial sector entities because they can borrow money at the aforementioned artificially low interest to keep themselves alive no matter “artificial” that life is. The moment we start to see interest rates go to their natural levels, you are going to see a giant swath of reorganizations (which is a fancy word for bankruptcies). It’s coming.

I’ve also watched as QE2 (that’s Quantitative Easing, the Obama Fed plan to manipulate interest rates by creating bogus money based on the government essentially borrowing from itself) has fed this big player stock market gluttony with artificial money creating artificially low interest rates. The last time quantitative easing ended, the market lost about 16% of its total value in about two weeks. QE2 is scheduled to end in June. You do the predictive math about what’s going to happen in June/July.

I am reminded of a rather chilling 7 minute video about a fictional scenario which is starting to look more and more like a prophecy:

The plot of the highly realistic video is that Obama’s announcment of QE4 is met with the world market finally realizing that Obama is a clueless idiot. And it proceeds to detail the unravelling of the entire financial system.

We are almost certainly going to see QE3. The only way we WON’T see QE3 is if the “experts” rename what will be virtually exactly the same thing. The liberal/progressive/socialist powers that be simply don’t have any other plan. And whether it’s QE4 or QE5, at some point the world markets will come to the same conclusion that they arrive at in the fictional video above.

Is America completely screwed in this God damn America presidency?

To answer Cameron Diaz’s thrice asked question, yes, seriously.

‘The Light At The End Of The Tunnel Has Been Turned Off’: An 11 Mile Stretch Of The Mississippi River Has Been Closed Due To Drought In God Damn America

August 23, 2012

When things got real bad in Russia in the aftermath of that nation’s collapse due to socialism, that was what the Russians were saying: “The light at the end of the tunnel has been shut off.”

Well, things aren’t going well in the God damn America of Barack Obama.

Which, you ought to know, I pretty much predicted the very day Obama won the election.

This drought that has been going on and on for the last three years (kind of like Obama) has been like a curse right out of the Bible:

(CNN) — Marjorye Heeney knew something was wrong when she saw a bulging cloud of black dust darken the sky.

Drought-like conditions dried this Kern River bed last year near Bakersfield, California.

Drought-like conditions dried this Kern River bed last year near Bakersfield, California.

She then heard an eerie, train-like whistle as fierce winds rattled her front door and windows. When she looked outside, hordes of grasshoppers and crows swarmed over her father’s barren farm. After the storm broke, her father walked outside and muttered curses as he scanned the horizon for rain clouds.

“I can remember my dad just watching the sky so closely,” Heeney says. “A sprinkle would excite him so much.”

That’s how Heeney, now 83, describes growing up on an Oklahoma farm during the Dust Bowl storms in the 1930s. For much of that decade, “black blizzards” — formed by a prolonged drought and poor farming techniques — ravaged much of the nation.

Now a new generation of Americans is again anxiously looking to the sky. Drought has returned to the United States, and some warn that more tough days are ahead.

The value of water is starting to become apparent in America. Over the past three years a drought has affected large swaths of the country, and conflicts over water usage may become commonplace in the future, climatologists say.

I have been calling this country “God Damn America” since the ugly night of November 4, 2008.  And that is exactly what it has been under Obama.

Well, God Damn America just got truly historic:

Drought Forces An 11 Mile Section Of The Mississippi River To Be Closed
Sam Ro|Aug. 20, 2012, 6:29 PM

The devastating U.S. drought has been causing water levels to fall in the Mississippi River.

The AP’s Adrian Sainz reports:

Nearly 100 boats and barges were waiting for passage Monday along an 11-mile stretch of the Mississippi River that has been closed due to low water levels, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

New Orleans-based Coast Guard spokesman Ryan Tippets said the stretch of river near Greenville, Miss., has been closed intermittently since Aug. 11, when a vessel ran aground.

Tippets said it is not immediately clear when the river will re-open.

The Mississippi River is a crucial trade route for coal and agricultural goods. Low water levels had already been disrupting trade flows due to bottlenecking along the river.

When was the last time the Mississippi River closed???  The Mississippi is the mightiest river in America and one of the great rivers in the world.  And now it’s literally drying up.

Even JOURNALISTS Are Admitting It Now: The Mainstream Media Is Feverishly Working To Slant ‘News’ To Benefit The Obama Campaign

August 23, 2012

Two different observations from two different journalists says quite a bit that needs to be said:

The first came recently from Mark Halperin:

Mark Halperin: ‘The Media Is Very Susceptible to Doing What the Obama Campaign Wants’
11:57 AM, Aug 18, 2012 • By DANIEL HALPER

“The Obama folks clearly know they’ve found some traction on this tax return issue with Romney,” said NBC’s Lester Holt. “And then of course late in the week comes this challenge–‘give us a little more and we won’t complain anymore.’ Has this issue come to the point it’s jumped the shark?”

“I think the press still likes this story a lot, the media is very susceptible to doing what the Obama campaign wants, which is to focus on this,” said Halperin.

The mainstream media is very susceptible to doing what the Obama campaign wants.  True dat.

The second comes from Jake Tapper, and becomes even more relevant when you consider Halperin’s observation:

Jake Tapper: Media Is Failing The Country
August 21, 2012

Truer words were never said.

Jake Tapper of ABC News is one of the last honest men in the business. In an interview with Laura Ingraham on her radio show today, Tapper pointed out what’s obvious to so many Americans.

The media was and is in the tank for Obama…

In an interview with Laura Ingraham, White House reporter Jake Tapper said that the media is failing the country.

“A lot of people are hurting out there. Unemployment is 8.3 percent. That doesn’t even take into account the underemployed,” he said, arguing that too much time has been spent not talking about the economy.

Tapper also criticized the media for not giving enough attention to the war in Afghanistan.

“We are spending a lot of time in the last few weeks, those of us in the political world, political journalists and also politicians, talking about things other than the economy,” said Tapper. “[A] lot of people are hurting out there. I’d like to see more action taken and more emphasis given to this issue.”

Tapper also said he relates to Mark Halperin’s recent comments about the media. Over the weekend, Halperin said, “I think the press still likes this story a lot, the media is very susceptible to doing what the Obama campaign wants, which is to focus on this.”

“I have said before… [that I] thought the media helped tip the scales. I didn’t think the coverage in 2008 was especially fair to either Hilary Clinton or John McCain,” Tapper said.

On the 2008 coverage, he noted, “Sometimes I saw with story selection, magazine covers, photos picked, [the] campaign narrative, that it wasn’t always the fairest coverage.”

Listen to audio from Real Clear Politics

Speaking of Hilary Clinton and 2008, it is a fact of history that the Clinton campaign and Hillary Clinton herself said that Fox News gave them fairer coverage than any other news outlet:

Hillary Clinton: “There Were A Lot Of Times When I Appreciated” Fox News During Primary
Huffington Post
First Posted: 10-14-08 12:09 PM   |   Updated: 11-14-08 05:12 AM

Hillary Clinton appeared on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday morning, where she discussed sexism with co-host Gretchen Carlson and took the opportunity to say that she “appreciated” Fox News’ balanced coverage of her campaign.

[…]

“We did call them on it at Fox, in fact I think you went on record saying that Fox was the most fair and balanced place during the time when you were running,” Carlson said.

“There were a lot of times when I appreciated the commentators and reporters on Fox who did step up and make that clear,” Clinton responded.

Clinton also said that Sarah Palin is facing the same sort of sexism that she faced.

I wish a major polling organization would do a poll on registered Democrats and ask the question, “Do you believe Hillary Clinton would have done a better job governing the country than Barack Obama has?”  I truly believe that most Democrats would respond, “Hell yes!”

Fox News was fair and balanced when all the other mainstream media “news” outlets were in the tank swooning in adoration with their legs tingling for Obama.

Barack Obama has profoundly damaged America.  And either John McCain OR Hillary Clinton would have done a HELL of a lot better job than this failed turd.  And the only network that gave either of those candidates any chance at all is the Fox News network which also happens to be the ONLY NEWS NETWORK WHOSE ANCHORS WEAR AMERICAN FLAG PINS ON THEIR LAPELS.  Because unlike ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, etc., etc., Fox News actually gives a flying damn about America rather than sanctimoniously considering themselves above America and “citizens of the world” the way all the other propaganda outlets do.  There’s a reason that a story came out that ABC banned their journalists from wearing American flag pins because nobody the hell was WEARING ONE.  Rather, the mainstream media are following their “citizen of the world-in-chief” Barack Obama.

Fox News is different from Obama and all the other mainstream media “citizens of the world.”  They actually give a damn about their country.  Which is why they wear American flag pins when others won’t and which is why they gave fair coverage to Hillary Clinton and John McCain when others wouldn’t.

Hillary Clinton ought to finally understand what it’s like to be a Republican.  Because the mainstream media treated her like a Republican until it was time for them to swivel their guns to take aim at John McCain.

Doctrinaire liberal “journalist” Evan Thomas of Newsweek birdcage-liner fame once said this in a candid moment:

July 18th, 2008
Press worth more than fifteen points for Obama?

Query:

If, as Evan Thomas of Newsweek said in a moment of unguarded candor:

The media, I think, want [Democratic presidential candidate John F.] Kerry to win. And I think they’re going to portray Kerry and [running mate John] Edwards…as being young and dynamic and optimistic and all, there’s going to be this glow about them that is going to be worth, collectively, the two of them, that’s going to be worth maybe 15 points…”

—then how much is Obama’s press worth?

I’d say about double that.

And aren’t Evans’ remarks even more on target as a description of the Obama mystique than they ever were for Kerry/Edwards?

Keep in mind, Evan Thomas was the guy who infamously said of Obama:

Newsweek editor Evan Thomas brought adulation over President Obama’s Cairo speech to a whole new level on Friday, declaring on MSNBC: “I mean in a way Obama’s standing above the country, above – above the world, he’s sort of God.”

So when a guy like Evan Thomas says that basically the Republican has to win by MORE than fifteen points because that’s what the media is going to give to the Democrat, you get a sense of how desperate we are in these last days of America as a Joseph Goebbels press runs amok with reality.

And, yes, as Jake Tapper indicates, there are ALL KINDS of big stories that the news media ought to be focusing on like a laser beam – which is EXACTLY what they would be doing if the incumbant were George Bush rather than Barack Hussein.

So to Jake Tapper’s big questions that the media are refusing to cover: does the Obama campaign want to talk about the economy?  How about HELL NO:

Democratic strategists Stanley Greenberg and James Carville have released a striking new report arguing in stark terms that some key voting groups now reject President Obama’s claim that the economy is improving — and may well reject Obama himself in November.

Democracy Corps, the political consulting group run by Greenberg and Carville, showed several Obama campaign commercials to focus groups in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Several of the group members, who were “all independents or weak partisans and ticket-splitters” and included both Obama and McCain voters from 2008, became irritated when shown Obama ads touting economic improvement. They don’t see that improvement in their own lives, the report says, and they don’t believe Obama when he claims things are better.

The fact of the matter is that Obama CAN’T talk about the economy because he has wildly and spectacularly failed – and in fact has wildly and spectacularly failed according to his very own rhetoric.

How about Afghanistan?  Does Obama want to talk about how he’s done in Afghanistan?  Let me quote myself from a comment I made before writing this:

It truly is stunning. If you examine the casualties in Afghanistan, you find that fully damn HALF of them occurred just during the last 27 months of the failed Obama presidency. Keep in mind, this is a war that Bush fought all eight years of his presidency … with a total of 630 American KIA during those eight years. The other 1,472 dead – seventy percent of all the casualties of the entire war – are all on Obama during less than HALF the time.

And where are all the damn liberals and the Cindy Sheehans crying over the dead soldiers when we really need them???

Do you believe that the Obama campaign wants to talk about Obama’s failure in Afghanistan and how Obama is working on being the first loser since the last Democrat war debacle in Vietnam???

THAT’S why the mainstream media isn’t talking about this stuff, Jake.  Because Obama doesn’t want them to and Obama is the mainstream media messiah as no one else has EVER been.

The Obama campaign wants to talk about Mitt Romney as a “vampire capitalist” who outsourced jobs at Bain.  So they talk about Bain the way Obama wants them to even though Mitt Romney built up 8 out of 10 of the failing businesses he rescued, even though all of the examples of “outsourcing” occurred AFTER Romney left Bain and in fact WHILE Obama’s top bundler was the head of Bain, and even though OBAMA is a FAR bigger outsourcer.  The Obama campaign wants to talk about Mitt Romney’s taxes, so the media have fixated on Mitt Romney’s taxes

The one thing you can absolutely guarantee is that the mainstream media will do ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING IT CAN DO to ensure that this campaign isn’t about the central issues facing the nation – because if it was Obama would lose in a landslide.

CU-Boulder Analysis That Has Accurately Predicted EVERY Presidential Race Since 1980 Says Romney Wins, 52.9% To 47.1%, By 320 To 270 Electoral Votes

August 23, 2012

The Colorado University analysis is based primarily on economic data.  So it ought to be a highly relevant fact that Gallup just released a poll that says Americans disapprove of Obama’s economic performance by a measure of 60 to 36.

Obviously, there will probably eventually be a first time for CU-Boulder’s analysis to be wrong, but this is sure good news for Romney (and America!) and bad news for Obama and liberals:

CU-Boulder analysis of election factors points to Romney win
Wednesday, 22 August 2012 18:23 staff

A University of Colorado analysis of state-by-state factors leading to the Electoral College selection of every U.S. president since 1980 forecasts that the 2012 winner will be Mitt Romney.

The key is the economy, say political science professors Kenneth Bickers of CU-Boulder and Michael Berry of CU Denver. Their prediction model stresses economic data from the 50 states and the District of Columbia, including both state and national unemployment figures as well as changes in real per capita income, among other factors.

“Based on our forecasting model, it becomes clear that the president is in electoral trouble,” said Bickers, also director of the CU in DC Internship Program.

According to their analysis, President Barack Obama will win 218 votes in the Electoral College, short of the 270 he needs. And though they chiefly focus on the Electoral College, the political scientists predict Romney will win 52.9 percent of the popular vote to Obama’s 47.1 percent, when considering only the two major political parties.

“For the last eight presidential elections, this model has correctly predicted the winner,” said Berry. “The economy has seen some improvement since President Obama took office. What remains to be seen is whether voters will consider the economy in relative or absolute terms. If it’s the former, the president may receive credit for the economy’s trajectory and win a second term. In the latter case, Romney should pick up a number of states Obama won in 2008.”

Their model correctly predicted all elections since 1980, including two years when independent candidates ran strongly, 1980 and 1992. It also correctly predicted the outcome in 2000, when Al Gore received the most popular vote but George W. Bush won the election.

The study will be published this month in PS: Political Science & Politics, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Political Science Association. It will be among about a dozen election prediction models, but one of only two to focus on the Electoral College.

While many forecast models are based on the popular vote, the Electoral College model developed by Bickers and Berry is the only one of its type to include more than one state-level measure of economic conditions.

In addition to state and national unemployment rates, the authors looked at per capita income, which indicates the extent to which people have more or less disposable income. Research shows that these two factors affect the major parties differently: Voters hold Democrats more responsible for unemployment rates while Republicans are held more responsible for per capita income.

Accordingly — and depending largely on which party is in the White House at the time — each factor can either help or hurt the major parties disproportionately.

Their results show that “the apparent advantage of being a Democratic candidate and holding the White House disappears when the national unemployment rate hits 5.6 percent,” Berry said. The results indicate, according to Bickers, “that the incumbency advantage enjoyed by President Obama, though statistically significant, is not great enough to offset high rates of unemployment currently experienced in many of the states.”

In an examination of other factors, the authors found that none of the following had any statistically significant effect on whether a state ultimately went for a particular candidate: The location of a party’s national convention; the home state of the vice president; or the partisanship of state governors.

In 2012, “What is striking about our state-level economic indicator forecast is the expectation that Obama will lose almost all of the states currently considered as swing states, including North Carolina, Virginia, New Hampshire, Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida,” Bickers said.

In Colorado, which went for Obama in 2008, the model predicts that Romney will receive 51.9 percent of the vote to Obama’s 48.1 percent, again with only the two major parties considered.

The authors also provided caveats. Factors they said may affect their prediction include the timeframe of the economic data used in the study and close tallies in certain states. The current data was taken five months in advance of the Nov. 6 election and they plan to update it with more current economic data in September. A second factor is that states very close to a 50-50 split may fall an unexpected direction.

“As scholars and pundits well know, each election has unique elements that could lead one or more states to behave in ways in a particular election that the model is unable to correctly predict,” Berry said.

Election prediction models “suggest that presidential elections are about big things and the stewardship of the national economy,” Bickers said. “It’s not about gaffes, political commercials or day-to-day campaign tactics. I find that heartening for our democracy.”

There are, for the record, 538 electoral college votes.  If Obama wins 218, that means that Romney will win 320.  And this analysis has Romney winning virtually ALL the critical swing states.

Personally, for the sake of America, I hope the margin is even greater.  I hope that Romney has an overwhelming mandate to restore America and undo Obama’s failed attempt to “fundamentally transform” it.

Does this mean Republicans should ease off the throttle?  HELL NO!  It means that we ought to be like General Patton and determine to drive right through and right over the enemy.

Give money donations, knowing that unlike Obama supporters you won’t be pissing your money away in a failed cause to top off a failed presidency.

Give time donations, knowing that if you volunteer for the Romney campaign, you’ll be serving the next president of the United States rather than wasting your time like Obama supporters.

And give your vote, knowing that if you vote for Romney, you’ll be voting for the winner rather than wasting your vote on the loser.

[Update, 8/23/12]: It is being reported today that new polling shows in the Real Clear Politics average that Mitt Romney is gaining momentum in eight of the nine key swing states while Obama is either flat or losing ground.

Obama Breaks Bush Gas Price Record (I KNEW You Could Do It, Barry Hussein!!!)

August 22, 2012

As reported in the Los Angeles Times:

Gasoline prices rise, setting California and U.S. records
California’s average gasoline price of $4.129 is a new high for the third week of August, though the ascent has slowed. The U.S. average sets a similar record, and diesel prices raise concern.
By Ronald D. White, Los Angeles Times
August 21, 2012

California’s gasoline prices may have peaked after the refinery fire at Chevron Corp.’s Richmond facility, but they still rose enough over the last week to reach their highest level ever for the third week of August, the Energy Department said Monday.

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in California was $4.129, according to the Energy Department’s weekly survey of gas stations. That was up 3.3 cents from a week earlier — and 26.1 cents higher than on Aug. 6, just before the refinery fire knocked out parts of the state’s third-biggest fuel-producing plant.

The price for the third week of August broke a state record set in 2008, when the California average was $4.037 a gallon.

A separate, daily survey sponsored by AAA found that California’s average had stabilized, slipping one-tenth of a cent from Sunday’s average to $4.118 a gallon.

The Energy Department survey showed the U.S. average for a gallon of regular gasoline rose 2.3 cents over the last week to $3.744, squeaking past the previous national record for the third week of August, set in 2008, of $3.740.

Meanwhile, Tom Kloza, chief oil analyst for the Oil Price Information Service, said diesel prices were the bigger economic worry because they were raising transportation, construction and agricultural costs.

The average price of a gallon of diesel rose 9.8 cents to $4.313 in California and 6.1 cents to $4.026 nationwide — the highest averages since May 14.

Oil futures fell 4 cents to $95.97 a barrel in New York. The London price fell a penny to $113.70 a barrel.

Way to go there, Barry H.  Mind you, if I may play my own horn for a moment, I did predict your success in this regard in articles such as “Why Obama’s Energy Plan Will Cripple US” and “Liberals And Stupidity: The Homer Simpson Energy Idiots Club.”  I knew it was in you just as I know that America aint seen NOTHIN’ yet.

Don’t you listen to the complainers.  You just go on with your master plan to “necessarily bankrupt” the people who produce America’s energy.

August 22, 2012

In light of all the things the left has done against the right in terms of hate crimes (e.g., the mass murder attempt by a liberal at the conservative Family Research Council, the hate-based graffiti left at Chick-Fil-A, the lefty slimebag who filmed himself being a creep to a nice Chick-Fil-A employee at the drive-through window), it was interesting to see how liberals become victims:

Lesbian who alleged Nebraska hate crime charged with lying about attack
By Andrew Mach, NBC News

A Nebraska woman who claimed she was the victim of a horrific hate crime in July and subsequently charged with making false claims to police pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charge Tuesday.

Police in Lincoln, Neb., who spent weeks investigating the case, arrested Charlie Rogers Tuesday for making a false report. Lancaster County Attorney Joe Kelly said a judge issued the warrant for her arrest earlier Tuesday.

Rogers, 33, of Lincoln, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on a personal recognizance bond after a brief court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

Rogers told police three men wearing black ski masks broke into her home during the early morning hours on July 22, bound her wrists and ankles with zip ties, beat her and carved anti-gay slurs into her arms and abdomen.

Rogers also alleged the men spray painted slurs inside the home and poured gasoline around the house before lighting it on fire.

Rogers said she was bound and naked when she escaped and managed to knock on a neighbor’s door at about 4 a.m. July 22.

Police said they interviewed Rogers on four separate occasions. Now, because of inconsistencies in her various accounts of the attack and forensic DNA evidence, a warrant was issued for her arrest.

“A great deal of time and resources were spent investigating Charlie Rogers’ claims in hopes of identifying and arresting the three suspects in this case,” Lincoln Police said in a statement. “As the investigation progressed and additional interviews were completed, the department received results from forensic analysts and experts making it apparent that the physical evidence conflicted with Charlie Rogers’ version of events.”

There was no apparent struggle in the room where Rogers said she was attacked on her bed, the warrant for her arrest says, which also described the bedspread as appearing “neat” and “evenly placed on the bed.”

“There was no apparent blood on the bedspread; even though Ms. Rogers reported she was rolled on to her stomach after she had been cut on her arms, abdomen, chest and front legs while being held down.”

Forensic tests of Rogers’ bedding at the University of Nebraska Medical Center found no traces of blood.

Additionally, the FBI sent photos of the cuts on Rogers to a coroner’s physician for Lancaster County, who consulted with Dr. Michelle Elieff, a forensic pathologist. According to the warrant, Elieff said Rogers’ cuts appeared to be self-inflicted.

“This opinion is based partially on the fact that the cuts appeared to be superficial and symmetrical, avoided sensitive areas of the body, appear that they would have taken considerable time to do and are accessible to the victim and follow the victim’s frame of reference for reading and writing.”

Elieff also noted Rogers had no bruising, even though she alleged the men beat her.

Police also found a pile of clothes, a pair of white knit gloves and a red box cutter on the living room floor. Rogers said the gloves did not belong to her, but DNA testing determined she was the “major contributor” of DNA inside of them, according to the warrant.

Investigators discovered that the gloves, zip ties, blades and a red utility knife were purchased five days before the alleged attack at a hardware store in Lincoln. During an interview, Rogers told police she shops at that store.

Police showed a clerk from the store a photo lineup and the clerk identified Rogers as the person who bought the items, the arrest warrant says.

Police said that they also discovered graffiti spray painted on the basement walls after Rogers told the initial responding officer about it the morning of her alleged attack. But in a subsequent interview with Rogers, police said she did not know anything about the graffiti because she left her house immediately after the attack, the arrest warrant said.

KETV

Rogers gave an interview shortly after her alleged attack, saying she wanted to counter those who doubted that the attack ever happened.

News of the alleged attack sparked multiple vigils attended by thousands of gay-rights supporters who donated money in support of Rogers in cities throughout Nebraska.

At the time, Rogers said she would not attend the vigils because she was in hiding and wouldn’t speak publicly about the details of her attack for fear of influencing the police investigation.

But after a week, police said they had found no suspects, leading some to question whether Rogers made it all up.

On July 27, Rogers gave an interview to KETV in Omaha, saying she decided to make her name and face public to counter those skeptical that the attack ever happened.

“I understand that people sort of have a hard time wrapping their heads around the things that have happened, as do I,” Rogers said. “But I’m a person with feelings, with concerns. For people to think that this doesn’t happen here, it does. It did.”

If convicted, Rogers could face up to one year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine, the Lancaster County Attorney’s office said.

It’s funny.  Conservatives will grow to great lengths to – sorry, Obama – BUILD businesses and become personally successful.  Liberals will go to even more radical lengths to “fundamentally transform” themselves into victims so people will feel sorry for them and validate their being pathetic people.

Which are you?

Personally, I believe that those who make false reports ought to be punished according to the degree that the REAL victim – the person arrested for “committing” that crime – would have faced.

As a P.S., here is an article by a mainstream media “news” outlet describing how Charlie Rogers was a victim of this terrible crime:

Victim of Horrific Hate Crime Speaks Out After People Doubt Her Story
by Sarah Vrba
July 30, 2012

The victim of an LGBT hate crime in Lincoln, Nebraska has decided to come forward and make a public statement about her attack on local television. Charlie Rogers was attacked in her home when three masked men broke into her house, bound her wrists and carved offensive anti-gay words into her abdomen. The attackers also attempted to set her house on fire and painted more slurs on her wall before leaving.

The community of Lincoln, Nebraska has stood by Rogers during the entire week, holding a vigil to support her. The police confirmed that the attack was a hate crime directed at the LGBT community after they discovered the nature of the words in her home but many doubters have surfaced, suggesting that Rogers made up the whole event simply because no suspects have been unearthed yet.

Rogers came forward in a moving interview, speaking clearly and tearfully about the attack. She reaffirmed her humanity, her integrity and her support of victims of violence around the world in the statement.

She said regarding those who do not believe she was attacked:

Being a victim in a situation like this, or survivor, and then having your integrity questioned I guess… It feels very victimizing again. It feels very saddening. It makes an already difficult situation more difficult because my world has been changed forever by these events.

Rogers’ statement points out that those who don’t believe she was attacked are playing a game and injecting an essentially anti-LGBT agenda into an already traumatic situation. By claiming that Rogers is lying about her experience, doubters are belittling simultaneously Rogers (most likely because of her identity as a lesbian woman) and the serious nature of LGBT hate crimes. She continued in her statement:

I’m a person, you know, with feelings, with concerns and it’s just so…. It feels like a punch in the stomach, like a betrayal…

Instead of the focus being on safety and healing and the investigation, the whole thing turns into a defense, essentially. You know, it starts to feel like, you know, it doesn’t even become about the situation it becomes about something altogether different and then I start to feel like a pawn in a game.

People are people. Agendas are agendas. And I think it’s really important that we distinguish between those two things.

Rogers concluded her statement by thanking those that have stood beside her during this most difficult time and reaffirming the importance of awareness and compassion. “Everyone is worthy of safety, and justice, and fairness.”

Sarah Vrba ought to have her ideologue ass kicked right to the curb and anybody who continues to watch channel 2 in that area ought to be institutionalized as threats to themselves and others.

Note the self-righteous, sanctimonious tone: if you don’t believe this psychotic lesbian’s story, it is only because you are a bad person.

And who do the bad people turn out to be?  Sarah Vrba and Charlie Rogers.

For the record, had Charlie Rogers actually been attacked the way she described, it would have been a truly hateful thing and the people who did it should have been hunted down like rabid dogs.  But the very condemnation that those attackers – had they actually existed – truly deserves ITSELF screams an indictment at just what a truly wretched and vile human being Charlie Rogers and “journalists” like Sarah Vrba truly are.  Because they participated in a demonic lie that truly trivializes the hate of such an event.  And to add icing to just how truly despicable this fabrication is, the next time a homosexual person is TRULY victimized, there will be legitimate reason to doubt what happened BECAUSE OF THIS LIE.  And the fact of the matter is that if people like me don’t believe that attack happened, it won’t be because WE’RE the bad people, but rather it will be because bad people like Charlie Rogers have falsified such attacks in the past and propagandists like Sarah Vrba have exploited those false accounts.

Obama-Appointed General Dives Into Political Fray To Attack OPSEC Ex-Soldiers For Not Staying Above Political Fray

August 22, 2012

It’s that question I always ask: if you say it’s so damn wrong, then just why the hell do you keep doing it?

Let’s take this one on: it is wrong for soldiers to attack Obama because doing so means entering the political fray.  But it is NOT wrong for the man who says it’s wrong to enter the political fray to enter the political fray.

But if it’s actually wrong for soldiers to enter the political fray, why in the hell did General Martin Dempsey enter the political fray???

It amounts to the general being angry that others are doing what he is doing merely because they happen to be on the opposite side of the political fray from himself.  At least until he comes unglued denouncing former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Colin Powell for endorsing Barack Obama.  Oh, and former General Wesley Clark for endorsing John Kerry.  Oh, and let’s not forget John Kerry himself along with his “band of brothers” who went around campaigning with him.  I guess it’s okay THOSE times because … because … well, just BECAUSE.  Don’t ask questions.

We seem to have broken General Martin Dempsey’s rule rather quickly as a nation, oh, given the fact that our very first top general – George Washington – somehow had the unmitigated gall to enter that damn political fray to become our very first president.  But stuff like that are just facts, and liberals really don’t care about such things.

The fascinating thing about this is that THE SOLDIERS THAT GENERAL MARTIN DEMPSEY IS ATTACKING ARE NO LONGER ACTIVE-DUTY SOLDIERS. THEY ARE OUT OF THE MILITARY.  WHICH MEANS THEY HAVE EVERY DAMN RIGHT TO ENTER ANY POLITICAL FRAY THAT THEY WANT TO ENTER WHEREAS THE GENERAL WHO SAYS SOLDIERS SHOULDN’T ENTER THE POLITICAL FRAY IS HIMSELF CURRENTLY ACTIVE DUTY EVEN AS HE ENTERS THE POLITICAL FRAY.

I myself served in the U.S. Army.  I had not been told that in doing so I would forfeit my political free speech rights for all time and eternity.  And it is frankly amazing to me that a man who is currently wearing the uniform of active duty military service would actually have the chutzpah to “enter the political fray” in order to “blast” men who have put away their uniforms to enter civilian life for “entering the political fray.”

How does it that these people’s heads don’t explode trying to contain all the contradictions???

Top US general blasts ex-officers for attacking Obama
(AFP) – 8/21/12

ABOARD A US MILITARY AIRCRAFT — US military chief General Martin Dempsey denounced ex-officers Tuesday for waging a campaign against President Barack Obama, arguing that soldiers had a duty to stay above the political fray.

Wading into a potential minefield during a hotly contested White House race, Dempsey voiced his disapproval of a group of retired military members and CIA officers who have accused Obama of spilling sensitive national security details to help secure his re-election.

Asked if the group’s criticism was valid or useful, Dempsey, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he would not comment on the substance of their allegations.

But he added: “As to the latter, is it useful? No, it’s not useful. It’s not useful to me.”

The military had a unique role that required political neutrality, said Dempsey, who spoke to reporters aboard his plane en route to the United States after visiting Afghanistan and Iraq.

And one of the things that marks us as a profession in a democracy, in our form of democracy, that’s most important is that we remain apolitical.

“That’s how we maintain our bond and trust with the American people,” the general said.

The group of ex-Navy SEALs and other retired officers who have blasted Obama, dubbed OPSEC for “operational security,” insist they are not a partisan organization but have genuine concerns about national security leaks.

In videos aired this month, the group said the Obama administration endangered the United States and the safety of troops by allegedly spilling secrets about operations, including the American raid last year that killed Osama bin Laden.

And that’s how the highly political General Martin Dempsey lost his bond and trust with me.

The opening words of the Wikipedia article  on this general pretty much tell you what you need to know:

General Martin E. Dempsey, USA (born March 14, 1952) is the 18th and current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He previously served 149 days as the 37th Chief of Staff of the Army from April 11, 2011, to September 7, 2011…  Dempsey assumed his current assignment on October 1, 2011.

That tells you 1) that Obama appointed Martin Dempsey as the Army Chief of Staff and then 2) Obama appointed Martin Dempsey as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

I’m just betting you that virtually all of the mainstream media will omit these little factoids as they run this propaganda piece.

And Obama likes to appoint only those who have noses that comfortably and willingly fit snugly up his rectum.

General Martin Dempsey is a self-identified hypocrite, and it is absolutely no surprise to me whatsoever that this is the kind of scoundrel that you get when Barack Obama is the president.

If this worthless disgrace of an Obama appointee had any testicles at all, he would be lambasting Barack Obama for his disastrous Afghanistan policy (and then resigning over his OWN military failures) as well as lambasting the political left for literally calling Navy SEALs and CIA front line fighters “gutless.”
